Authentic Santa Fe in charming 180-year-old, two-bedroom adobe casita in historic, east side neighborhood. Fully equipped kitchen, private garden and parking on quiet side street. Three blocks from gourmet dining at Geronimo's, flamenco shows at El Farol, galleries on Canyon Road. Walk to plaza, Museum Hill, trailheads. Close to Santa Fe Institute, 10000 waves, Ski Basin. Historically significant residence of seventeenth century founding Apodaca family. Hosted by modern day nuclear scientist.
The Apodaca family spirits live on this wonderful casita, full of stories of the family matriarch, Grandma Gregorita and her daughter, Aunt Clara. The casita was the central gathering place of an old orchard and farm, which included many other properties on Abeyta street, where members of the Apodaca family still live to share their stories. Recently renovated with all modern amenities, including a fully equipped kitchen with granite counters and a large French farm table for indoor dining. As you gather in the sunny kitchen, you can enjoy the breeze from the courtyard, where you can choose to eat when the weather is nice. From there you will hear the chiming of the cathedral bells from the plaza marking the quarter hours. Double thick adobe walls (some more than 18 inches!) provide insulation in summer and winter, but you have natural gas and air conditioning in case that doesn't work well enough for you. Bedrooms are on opposite sides of the casita for extra privacy, joined by a lovely common area and kitchen with a private, fenced in courtyard. The sunny Mora bedroom, just to the left of the entryway, has a queen bed, sitting area by kiva fireplaces, with east facing windows and a door that opens onto a private courtyard frequented by many varieties of singing birds. The Taos room, at the far end of the house through the living room, has two twin beds and is adjacent to the bathroom. Relax at the end of you day in Santa Fe in the jacuzzi tub, while enjoying the sounds of the fountain and birds from the shared courtyard in this quiet, private space.

Your host, Dr. Hayden, who lives in the main house on the property, comes from an old Texas family, whose matriarch traveled alone as a young art historian to the art colonies of Taos and Santa Fe in the early years of the twentieth century. You will enjoy the blending of these pioneer spirits through an unusual art collection and historic books. The main house is adjacent to the casita on the property but separated by a spacious, fenced in, shared courtyard.
