you can sit and read a book, or listen to the local Tanzanian beat...eat fish, drink beer at $1 a bottle...There's not too much going on on the beach, which is pretty cool.

Sleep on the beach 5m from the Sea, views of local islands (we can take you there). You will love the people, the ambiance, the experience. We are humble and we are happy people. We have created a space on this beach, with a bar, a kitchen, with shaded areas too. It's where the true locals hang out. Our home is basic and it is clean, with a lavatory, shower and four posted bed complete with mosquito net. Above all, you will be safe and your possessions also.

I had a great time with Magha and the guys. They were welcoming and friendly, and I felt safe and secure - important things for a woman traveling alone. I didn't get to meet Richard as he was in England during my stay, but we did get the chance to Facetime once I arrived. The location is fairly secluded, for which I was happy, and there are a couple of islands to visit that are a short boat ride away. It's a fair distance from the city itself, so if you plan to wander around Dar, be prepared to take a regular taxi or a bajaji. The bajaji are much cheaper and way more fun - in other countries they're called tuk-tuks, if that helps to explain. The place is not fancy, (neither am I, so it worked for me), so if you need luxury then it's not for you. However, if you want to get to know some locals, eat some local food, (including fish for breakfast that is, literally, pulled out of the ocean an hour before you eat it), and see a little of the area that the average tourist doesn't get to see, then this is definitely worth a visit. Oh, and the ocean really is 5 meters from the door, but only at high tide ;-)
