We are fantastically well located in the centre of Reykjavik 101, warm, cozy and welcoming. All Reykjavik’s main attractions, including her best restaurants, bars, cafes and shops are within a stone´s throw. We have come home to Reykjavik to raise our family and know the city, its language and culture intimately. We love it here. We love Airbnb too – we seem to attract incredibly friendly and inquisitive guests of all ages, be they single travelers, couples, families or groups of friends.
The house is a traditional timber built Icelandic house, warm and snug throughout the year as heated with Iceland’s famous hydro-thermic hot water. “Peter's Room" is a private room which can be configured either as a double room for couples or a twin room with separate single beds for friends or family. It is upstairs and looks out over the street. We have other private guest bedrooms in the house. All our guests have access to three shared bathrooms, two sitting rooms and a library, and to a kitchen which can be used for heating up food and snacks but not for cooking full meals. We do not offer breakfast for the very good reasons that we are not licenced to serve food and there are so many excellent bakeries and coffee houses so locally; these open very early.
Our house itself is quite well known, and is listed. It was a bicycle shop for fifty years, the first of these in Iceland, and as such it is much loved in Reykjavik, especially by people who bought their first bike here a generation ago.
Everything is around the corner. All the Reykjavik attractions, the old harbour, Harpa Concert Hall, Hallgrimskirkja church with its panoramic views, the city swimming pool with hot tubs and steam bath, and many others are all within five to seven minutes’ walk. The central bus station BSI is a 10 min walk . The bus from the airport stops 30 metres from the house.

Your private bedroom, two shared sitting rooms, kitchen, dining room and library. There is a shared bathroom on all floors which have guest bedrooms. There is a back yard with attractive golden rowan trees in it which is a nice aspect out of the windows, but this is part of our family space and not part of the guesthouse strictly speaking.

I am half English / half Icelandic, born and bred in Reykjavik, and am native in both languages. This is my home as I grew a couple of hundred meters away in Njalsgata street. My husband and children (by upbringing) are English.

Reykjavik is served by hydro-thermally heated hot water. Our hot water is hot and plentiful therefore and each bedroom has a radiator with an adjustable regulator. Don't be cold. Turn your radiator up if you wish.
No smoking in the back yard please. This is our family space and not part of the guesthouse.
Please take your shoes off when you enter and leave them in the lobby. We have wooden floors, shoes bring in dirt and make unnecessary noise so in Nordic countries no one wears shoes inside.
Please be aware we have neighbours and school aged children of our own. Even though we are surrounded by restaurants, cafes, this is still a quiet residential area where late night revelling happens in clubs and pubs but not in the home.
The kitchens are for making tea, coffee, and for heating up food etc. No boiling, roasting or frying without our prior permission please.
Only Airbnb pre-booked guests are allowed to stay over, for reasons both of courtesy and security.
The house is a vibrant family home: we love good conversation and want our guests to feel at home and comfortable in every way. We do expect you to be respectful of other guests staying with us, however. Please be quite after 11.30pm and before 7am, and do not use the downstairs bathroom during these midnight hours as it will awaken others.

I am a half Icelandic half English opera singer. I live with my family in Reykjavik. My husband was until recently headmaster of a boarding school in Hampshire where we used to live with our children. We were lucky to have school holidays to come to Iceland which we have done every year for years. We love it so much here that we have now decided to settle here. I grew up in Njálsgata in my grandparents' house which is very nearby. Many of my cousins, aunts and uncles still live in the old town. I love my home town and am thrilled at how Reykjavik has changed from the sleepy old fishing town of my childhood to the cosmopolitan and amazingly popular holiday destination it is now.
