This is a couple with a place on the edge of a small town. The house was generally clean but hardly tidy, and dirty dishes, a garbage bag in no container on the kitchen floor, and the bathroom did not leave a good impression.
We were subsequently accused of being late by the hostess (after the stay), for we arrived at 9 pm. We tried to arrive by the anticipated time of 8 pm or earlier, but it took us a bit longer than we thought to get there as it was a drive of a couple hours to reach this location. We have no cell phone, as we live in the USA and our phone does not work in Europe. To contact them would have meant we would be even later.
I had told her husband that we had a good deal of garbage to throw out since we were flying home the next morning. He gave me a plastic bag, but we had a cardboard box and it was easier just to put the garbage in the box in one place, under a small table in the kitchen. It was all neatly put there in one box in the kitchen.
During the night, we had to go down a rather dangerous wooden staircase, and there was no nightlight, so I would recommend the hosts get a nightlight for the hall if they are going to have guests.
We had the host's husband open a window, since I did not know how to do so, and did not wish to break anything, and it was stuffy and warm. He opened it. When I woke up around 5 am, I closed it because it was cooler and starting to rain.
After a small, quick breakfast, we cleaned up the kitchen after we ate and washed all the dishes that we had used. My wife tidied up and checked our room thoroughly, and videotaped it, as she does with every place we stay. We left the place about 15-20 minutes after the host departed, just after 8 in the morning, to catch our flight.
After our departure, the host requested 50 Euros for water damage from an open window. As my wife always does everywhere we stay, she had made video recordings of both the room and from the outside of the house, which clearly and unambiguously showed that the window was closed. The videos are timed and dated by the camcorder, and provide evidence of no offense, and the room was left in good order, as the video clearly shows.
