Tree Crop Farm in Akaroa on the Grehan Valley stream, have a 20 year reputation for their picturesque arcadian setting and the wood fires, candles, flowers, late sleep-ins, hot baths outside under the stars and the dawn chorus from who knows how many thousands of birds at day break. Tree Crop Farm is a 20-hectare hillside lifestyle block crisscrossed with walk tracks leading to many more up and over the mountains behind Akaroa . Guests can now come to Tree Crop Farm for nearly 24 hours and they greatly appreciate the later checkout..they can sleep in longer and no pressure to get up! The garden is no longer open to the public every day and the café ceased when retired journalist owner Lynnie Alexander stopped farming the 50-acre block and wanted to concentrate more on vegetable gardens in particular increasing the production of Jerusalem and globe artichokes, and breeding hens and ducks for eggs and meat . This is good news for the overnight guests as the property is more private now and the crowing of the essential rooster can be heard more easily!!!!!!! The café has been converted into a library with a log fire which is available to guests, and the Verandah also has areas which guests can use in daylight hours. Anything from the garden is available for salads guests may wish to make plus herbs, and hen and duck eggs are collected every day in season, so there is a chance of a most memorable omelette !!! Those missing their espressos and lattes can prevail upon their host, who understands these things, and still has an up to the minute coffee machine in the kitchen!
