Welcome to our bach, the JOLLY OLD DOG.
Location: 60 Jollies Pass Rd, Hanmer Springs. It’s approx. 600m down the road, on the left, just before the DogStream corner. Large white house, with shed and carport out the front, and a wooden fence.
Key is in the lockbox on shed door. Code is
Inside the small hallway cupboard are more keys to the sheds, patio doors etc.
Linen: Please bring your own sheets for the 1 x Queen bed and 6 x single beds. There are plenty of blankets, covered duvets, and pillows. There are electric blankets on the queen bed and front kids’ beds. There are plenty of towels in the linen cupboard and tea-towels in the kitchen for your use. Please put these and the bathmats through a quick wash and leave them on the laundry racks (in hall cupboard) before your departure. Please note, our towels are not plush and fluffy; they are old, faded, and therefore great for the pools !
Bed linen can be rented for $10 per bed, per stay.
Food: you are welcome to use some of our basic dry goods such as tea, sugar, salt, spices. Please don’t raid our coffee or booze. If a larger group, or staying a few days, you’ll need to restock the loo paper please. We are on a septic tank – any loo paper is fine, but no other products whatsoever can be flushed, or you will definitely have a problem to deal with.
Cleaning: our nightly rates are based on you cleaning the bach yourselves after your stay. There are ample cleaning products and a great vacuum cleaner. If you choose not to clean it, please add an extra $100 onto your rental.
No smoking inside whatsoever.
Heating: there is plenty of dry firewood out in the woodshed (key hanging in hall cupboard). Please refill the lounge woodbox before leaving. Instructions for optimising the fireplace are also on the laminated sheet. If you choose to use the heatpump, please turn it off when not in the bach.
Rubbish: our bins are located in the front shed (key in hallway cupboard). Collection is on Monday mornings. Please don’t put rubbish out unless it is a Sunday or first thing Mon morning. All trash must be in the designated black Hurunui Council bags, or they won’t collect it. All glass (without caps/lids) goes out in the blue tub, and other recycling goes in the clear Hurunui Council recycling bags. If you see any evidence of mice or rodents, please let us know.
Pets: please leave your fur babies at home.
BBQ: you’re welcome to use the BBQ. Please let us know if the gas runs out.
On arrival: you’ll need to turn on the power and water. There is a laminated sheet of instructions in the hall alcove. Basically, you turn on the power and water heater in the power box in front porch. The water mains tap is located in the ground, approx. 3m along from the front gate. Initially the water from the hot tap may be brown and spurty – just run it through until all the air is out of the pipes and the water runs clear. It is actually great drinking water – no need to boil. Turn the fridge on, but wait about 20-30mins before use. Please don’t adjust the temp setting as it freezes up very fast.
On leaving: please turn power and water off, as per instructions. Leave all curtains open. Please return the hammock and sportsgear to the shed. Leave the fridge and freezer doors open. Return the key to the lockbox. Shut the gate, and drive safe .
