My place is off-grid and rustic! Only 5 miles from Madrid, NM. It is close to art and culture, great views, and restaurants and dining. You’ll love Shanti because of the views, the quiet peace, the unique experience of off-grid life on a mesa at 6800 feet, and the proximity to the artist village of Madrid.
My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and furry friends (pets).
Check out my other four rentals too! The yurt, the Tortilla bus, Dusk till Dawn and Golden Dawn at Shanti Community!
Kerouac is a 71 vw bus in the process of restoration for Airbnb. It will be available by May 2017. A deck with a hammock is being built. An outdoor community kitchen is available. Coffee and drinking water are supplied. A cooler is available, but bring ice. The main bed sleeps one to two. The cot in the upper tent sleeps one. If there is no wind a bonfire in the designated area is allowed and a bundle of wood is available for $5.
The bathroom is a rustic outhouse and the shower is a simple enclosed solar bag shower. We are on solar so there is electricity available for lights and phone charging.

We are an off-grid community. There is no running water but i supply drinking water as well as water for dishes, pups, and the simple solar shower etc. We are on solar at shanti so electricity is kept to a minimum for lights in all spaces as well as space to plug in phones or laptops computers only. Please turn lights off when not in use.
Please respect the land at shanti and park cars in the parking areas designated for this. The high desert land is fragile so please stick to the roads when coming to and from the land.
If there is ever a question of where these areas are feel free to communicate with me about it.
Firewood is available for the woodstoves for $5 a bundle. Outdoor bonfire in the designated area is allowed provided its communicated and there is no wind.
There is a compost area for coffee grains, food scraps, etc.
We provide soap and towels for bathing whether by warming water on individual woodstoves or in the solar shower.
Pups are welcome but we ask that everyone show respect for other airbnb visitors by keeping their dogs within their visibility. Hiking is incredible and quite private at shanti and down below the land in the valley and the canyon. Leashes are not necessary when hiking provided the pups are not aggressive.
4 pups live at shanti and get along fabulously with other dogs. They are with me the majority of the time.

I'm an off-grid, high desert, yurt dwelling, artist, musician, traveller and lover of life! The ten acres where my converted school buses and yurts reside is on a mesa a few short miles from the artist village of madrid, new mexico. Going to sleep and then waking to the sound of coyotes, owls, and nearby roosters, with 360 degree views is magical beyond description. Its quiet, peaceful but only 5 miles to the creative community of Madrid. Madrid has fabulous restaurants and 30 plus galleries with only 300 residents. The off-grid land where I live and am passionate about sharing, offers the best of both.... peaceful privacy and community.
