The house is situated in a small forest, surrounded by a sea of green that provides a refuge from the heat and the overwhelming city life. Our place offers you freedom that you might not enjoy elsewhere- couples are welcome, pets too, and relaxed impromptu parties are always possible. We like to surround ourselves with positive people, so we don't mind having a full house of friends and guests from all over the world. If you're a single traveller, you'll no doubt find company here.

Der Wohnraum

First thing you'll notice is the mystical vibe of our place- it's not accidental. About 50 meters from the house you'll find a sacred place- a magical spring between two ancient trees, frequently visited by worshipers of the Javanese faith Kejawen. If you walk in the other direction, you'll discover a small catholic sanctuary inside a cave called Goa Maria. And a museum like Chinese cemetery is just around the corner.

A peculiar place for the curious traveller

If you are a tourist looking for a luxurious retreat and a quick glance over the most well known Jogja spots, there a lot of wonderful hotels for you to enjoy and make selfies in. Your friends will be jealous, and you will check off Jogja on your travel map. But if you really want to experience this ancient and mystical city, if you really want to live like a local, if you are a true adventure seeking traveller with a free spirit and a curious mind- welcome to Kosala.

The hectic Jogja centre might be overwhelming for a first time visitor, and only after scratching the surface and digging deeper than the crazy traffic, confusing streets, and crowded sights, you will discover why so many travellers never forget their stay here. Why most of them return, and some even decide to call it their home. We are those people, and we have settled in the quiet village of Kasongan, just outside the busy centre. Let us show you our Jogja.

While the north of Jogja is the urban hub of the city, you'll find that the south has a much more relaxed vibe, almost like you're in the country side- but still 15 minutes away from the centre of all activities. With the famous ISI (Indonesian arts institute) at it's heart, the south of Jogja is a haven for artists and free spirited individuals- you'll find many expats living and creating in this area. Our village Kasongan is famous for the masterful pottery craftsmen, but you'll also find anything from leather, batik, weaving and furniture workshops.

The house is situated in a small forest, surrounded by a sea of green that provides a refuge from the heat and the overwhelming city life. First thing you'll notice is the mystical vibe of our place- it's not accidental. About 50 meters from the house you'll find a sacred place- a magical spring between two ancient trees, frequently visited by worshippers of the Javanese faith Kejawen. If you walk in the other direction, you'll discover a small catholic sanctuary inside a cave called Goa Maria. And a museum like chinese cemetary is just around the corner. Thanks to being a bit secluded, our place offers you freedom that you might not enjoy elsewhere- couples are welcome, pets too, and relaxed impromptu parties are always possible. We like to surround ourselves with positive people, so we don't mind having a full house of friends and guests from all over the world. If you're a single traveller, you'll no doubt find company here.
If you're looking for fancy restaurants, we'll gladly point you in their direction. But if you want a taste of true Java, have a bite in a popular local hangout just below our house. Or cook something for yourself in our spacious kitchen. If we're free, we might even cook a traditional meal for you!
If you want to visit the must-see sights, we also offer affordable tours. But if you also want to experience some less known locations, you will definitely benefit from staying with the locals. A 15 minute ride will take you to hidden waterfalls in secluded villages where you can swim alone. A half an hour drive will take you to the ocean where you can have freshly caught seafood grilled in front of you. Small temples and sacred places wait to be discovered just on the outskirts of overcrowded Prambanan. And if you want to attend art exhibitions, musical performances, rituals and become a part of every day life of locals, living among them is the best way to go.

We've travelled the world far and wide before settling here, and we know that accommodation is the biggest pocket burner for budget travellers. Especially when you want to experience the place you're visiting, you didn't travel all the way across the world to sleep. That's why our prices are the most affordable you will find in Jogja. Our facilities are simple, and we live like Indonesians do- there is no AC, but you won't need it in your cool and airy room. The toilet is traditional, but clean. You might hear the mosque, but it will not disrupt your sleep. And the beds are cosy enough for a weary traveller to rest for the night. During the day you can chill out on the patio overlooking the lush greenery, or the spatious living room if it's raining. And wherever you want to go, we will help you get there.
