Upon arrival from a long roadtrip from Catania, Nino picked us up at a fuel station in Balestrate. While following him to the accomodation, it became clear that otherwise it would have taken us some time to find the hidden backroad that leads to the entrance.
The two apartments are located in the basement of the family home, and are both facing downhill the beautiful yard that surrounds the place. Between the respective appartment's terraces, there is a couple of feet and a simple bush. Allthough we were happy with our neighbours, you do not have the feeling at all that you have the place to yourself. Our apartment (left one when facing the house) was rather deep, and was only equipped with a sliding door in the front, and a small ventilation window in the back. Because of showering, condensation of the airconditioning, and maybe the fact that the appartments are under ground, there was small moisture problem that could be both seen and smelled.
Nino is definitely a good host, you can see that he really enjoys socializing with his guests. He was happy to give us advice on where to go, where to eat, and what to do. What was not clear to us from the listing however, was that Nino and his family were staying on the level floor of the house, also enjoying the holidays. Allthough this meant that we were continually supplied with tastes of Nino's drinks collection, it did not add to the feeling of privacy.
This feeling, combined with the fact that we were travelling with a group of 5, the appartment felt rather small. The place is actually more convenient for a single couple, or two couples when they do not mind sleeping on a sleeping couch in the living room.
The location is perfect to do roadtrips to the south, west and north, since it is conveniently located near a highway junction. Selinunte, Mazara del vallo, Trapani, Scopello and Palermo are all within an hours drive.
Have a good trip!
