I am a "retired" travel writer and photographer who has covered the globe, from Malaysia and Japan, to India, Egypt, Tunisia and Australia and the far-off Azores. I lived in Manhattan and worked on the staff of New York Magazine, and as a free-lance, lived in London and Newcastle, England; Dublin and Inishbofin Island in Ireland; Inverness in the Scottish Highlands, Biel-Bienne, Switzerland, Paris, France and Montreal, Quebec. I enjoy playing Irish and Scottish traditional music on the Celtic harp and tin whistle and French music on the accordion, and have performed on big stages in the US and Canada, and the streets of Europe from Switzerland to Spain. My years of travels, lodging in humble digs and many of the world the world's top hotels and resorts, have shown me how special it is to feel at home away from home. I want to give my guests that same experience, whether they be Corning Museum Of Glass artists-in-residence from Bolivia or Japan, or Torontonians or New Yorkers coming to experience the splendor of the Finger Lakes. My ancestors settled in the Western New York over two centuries ago, and one even became a vintner. And so I found myself, after all my wanderings, taking on a Victorian fixer-upper built in 1870! I got it in on my birthday in October, 2004 and so it is called October House. Corning is one of the best small towns in America, and a peaceful yet lively base from which to explore the Finger Lakes region's mountains, glens, lakes, hiking trails and charming towns, and savor its wineries. I still feel like a tourist here! I will do everything I can to help you have a wonderful stay, and provide resources of what to see and do, in and around Corning. I speak French, so bienvenu to all francophones. A bientot... et bon voyage!
