This home is a 1904 Historic Portland Four Square. Located in the heart of Sellwood with views of the river, Oaks Bottom and the city. We are only a few minutes walk from restaurants, bike trails, breweries, Sellwood pool, antique shops and the Willamette River. Our place is well over 900 sq. ft. It is a very private well-lit guest suite with a seperate entrance and an outdoor urban garden. It is located across the street from sellwood park and steps away from the bluff.
Our goal, when we laid out and designed this space was we wanted it to feel like a New York City Loft. Our space has a floating bamboo floor, reclaimed fir stair treads, Ann Sachs penny-tile, custom designed built-ins including a black walnut dining table and nook as well as a walnut wine bar. A modern kitchen with modern artwork and unique touches are spread throughout. The entire space is filled with antiques, mid century modern items including a vintage Eames rocker and Eames wood lounge chair signed by Eames family members, vintage movie posters, Native American artifacts and numerous books fill and tastefully decorate the space. These are just a few of the special touches. The space allows for easy expansion and an air mattress is available for 1 to 2 people to sleep and or you can crash on a very comfy sofa. You will have access to your own private urban garden, that is perfect for reading, or just relaxing.
We have completed the remodel and have updated this space for our hard opening of July 28th...we feel the space is tastefully decorated and extremely comfortable. The bedroom has a brand new queen bed that is fitted it with luxury linens and bedding. The patio is starting to fill in and continues to get better with little touches like additional plants and accents pieces we have been installing or constructing.

Our house is located right across the street from sellwood park and from the street or front steps you can see sweeping views of the south waterfront and the city. As you come up the stairs you will follow a path to a newly built modern cedar gate and cedar fence that encloses your own private Urban Garden Oasis. For us, the space is a work in process and will continue to evolve over time and continue to get better. Currently, it has numerous design features such as: native planting, a beautiful maple tree, that has tiny sparkle lights strung on it....a lime stone patio, ceramic fireplace, some vintage chairs and side table. The place is tranquil and ideal for reading or lounging and is completely yours during the duration of your stay. Our goal is to have you relaxed and enjoy your experience and make your stay as comfortable as possible.

This is a new adventure for us and we are excited to meet and host you!
Please understand our home is well over 110 years old with loads of charm, built ins and character. As the house is old and full of character it sometimes has a will of its own..and given we have solid Fir and Oak floors throughout the house .....sometimes we can be heard walking but should never a problem nor an issue.

I am John. I am from Vancouver, B.C. and I love our house!
Shannon and I live in a historic home in Sellwood, in Portland. Shannon is a High Risk Mother Baby Nurse. She has a passion for decorating and gardening and is very creative. I am a Studio Design Leader at a large west coast Architectural firm. I am also exhibiting artist, vintage car guy and a movie buff that enjoys going fly-fishing when the opportunity avails itself. We both love raising our two long haired boys.
Both Shannon and I appreciate living a historic 100 year old house. We feel it is tasteful updated yet we both enjoy a modern environment. We both enjoy mid century Furniture, artwork, entertaining and we love hosting social gatherings in our home or garden or just having friends over for a "glass" of wine.
Our goal was to have people come into our home, enjoy themselves and get to enjoy a small slice of Sellwood and enjoy the Portland vibe.
