Open style kitchen with 8-foot copper bar and large open living room. Hard wood floors, spacious tall ceilings throughout the apartment. Facing southwest, the golden light filters through the curtains all day. The shared outdoor patio has a garden & dining.

Amenities include central A/C, W/D, high-speed wireless internet, fully stocked kitchen with spices and cookware, outdoor patio area, easy on-street parking, spring water delivered. No TV, but Roku media player projecter (4x6 foot screen) has lots of channels including Hulu plus, Netflixs, Youtube, and numerous other tv channels.

The Marigny is a very desirable place to stay in New Orleans because it's so charming, walkable and much closer to the French Quarter than the Garden district. There are also dozens of restaurants, bars, music clubs, coffee shops and event spaces within an 8 block radius from my house you could just spend your whole vacation close and feel like you saw and did a lot!

Here’s link to a map with all of the recommended locations and more:

From my house, the best walking streets are Spain St. to Royal St. It’s easy to get lost in the Marigny, so please take one of the maps that is in the guest room. Cabs are cheap around $7 to get to the Quarter. You can even get the bicycle taxis to take you home.

Buying liquor- all corner stores and gas stations sell liquor. The closest are: Schiros on Royal and St. Roch (4 blocks); Esplanade & Decatur (8 blocks).

Food Shopping. The New Orleans Food Coop is right behind my building with very affordable local produce. Also, Mardi Gras zone on Royal and Port st is open 24 hours a day with an eclectic grocery selection, deli and pizza.

Bars, some of my favs:
Mimis in the Marigny on Royal and Franklin (especially upstairs)
DBA on Frenchman
Spotted Cat on Frenchman

Cafes/ restaurants
Coffee: Cafe Niro on Mandeville and Burgundy (2 blocks); the Orange Couch on Royal and Mandeville (4 blocks)
Breakfast: Cake Café on Spain and Charters (3 blocks). Satsumas on Dauphine st. (12 blocks)
Ruby Slipper on Burgundy (8 blocks)
Affordable New Orleans cuisine: Coups on Decatur.
On Frenchman street you have plenty of restaurants, bars, coffee to keep you very occupied and happy. Of course, there is always venturing deeper into the French Quarter.

I have many more recommendations, and will be happy to give them upon request.

Full apartment and dining table in the garden.

I will greet you if I'm available and you will likely see me every afternoon in the courtyard taking care of the garden.

Easy to walk to everything you need close by, but for further travel, there are two bus stops: one within a block and second in 3 blocks. The street car is 8 blocks away.

My black cat Bagira can go freely outside and inside, even out the front door. He’s sweet when he’s sleepy likes to play chase if you feel so inclined. His food under in a cream colored basket (just in case). He will be staying with you while you are in the house, so please be aware if anyone has allergies.

Hausregeln

LOCK ALL DOORS ALL THE TIME. I can't emphasize this enough. And, yet there are always a few people, usually groups when someone forgets to lock the doors or the garage door bounces back up (about 1/3 of the time it bounces up so you have to watch is firmly close for a few seconds before leaving).

The Courtyard is a quiet area. You can be loud and boisterous in the apartment, but for my neighbors' sanity please speak quietly in the outdoor dining area. The courtyard is shared with 2 other neighbors, and noise bounces around, so please keep your voices down.

Aside from those big do's the rest is easy:
-I or my house sitter may come check in on y'all and the apartment. I have a couple of them, so it may vary, but I'll let you know by text or phone if someone is coming over.
-keep the curtains that face the street closed as soon as the sun goes down, I don't want to encourage people to peek in through the see through curtains

Free reign of the house:
-Help yourself in the kitchen. The free standing dresser has spices, utensils, plastic tupperware, some hand tools, flashlight.

I am an avid gardener, cook, dancer and yoga instructor. I lived in New Orleans off and on for 15 years and this apartment for 9 years. I'm pleased to be able to open up my home and welcome people to the joys of New Orleans. I'm from Colorado where I grew up on a ranch, where I learned my cooking and gardening skills. I've worked in food social justice world for 6 years in New Orleans, helping create fresh produce markets, small urban farms and gardens, and cooking and food education programs aimed at getting people to grow, buy and eat local, fresh, healthy food. I've practiced yoga for 18 years, and studied at the Jivamukti school in NYC and with many yogis in California. I socially dance salsa, lindy hop, Charleston, balboa, swing, and much more!

Any of my skill sets are for hire while you stay in my house: private dance classes, yoga sessions, cooking lessons, meals both traditional and non-New Orleans, running errands, pick up and drop off form the airport and around town. Please inquire!
