All the best bits of camping – campfires, birdsong, and breathtaking scenery, combined with clean, dry, inspirational space, proper beds and a private toilet.

The brand new yurt is at the edge of a wood, with a great view and perfectly placed trees for a hammock.

Everything you need for a relaxing stay is included, a fully equipped outdoor kitchen, Egyptian cotton bedding, towels, a wood burning stove and a firepit.

Der Wohnraum

The yurt sleeps upto two adults and two children. There’s a Kingsize double bed and a double futon, with sheets, pillows and duvets for each.

Your own outdoor kitchen is provided for cooking and eating. This incudes a gas burner or firepit bbq for cooking, a sink and all the pans, cutlery and crockery you might need. Wood for the stove and charcoal for the BBQ are included.

The yurt itself is completely off grid. Candle lamps provide light, and the lack of light pollution makes for exceptional star gazing, though do bring a torch! Water is rolled in from the farm, with a pump tap for the sink.

Bore Place, where the yurt is located is an environmental charity and organic dairy farm, pioneering renewable energy and reconnection with the natural world and the production of food. As a working farm there are various hazards - ponds, farm machinery etc. If you have children please make sure you supervise them.

There’s your own private composting toilet, just behind the yurt, and toilets and a shower at the centre reception a couple of fields away (around 300m) open 9am - 5pm.

As the yurt is in it’s own secluded meadow, it’s not possible to drive cars right up to it. Luggage can be dropped about 150m away, and rolled to the yurt on our trolley. Cars can then be parked in the centre carpark, just near the toilets and shower.

Smoking is allowed outside, but not in the Yurt itself.

Quite expensive for what it is. Toilet was a hole in the floor full up with of people's poo which wasn't pleasant. A lot of flys and slugs in the yurt which of course can't be helped but still, wasn't nice. Host was great though, very accommodating. Unfortunately our stay was delayed till October and was very cold and wet

I’m not quite sure how to respond, I feel a bit shocked by your review. I really am sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy your stay. You put back your booking a couple of times and the weather in October is pretty different from earlier in the year. With this in mind, I lit the stove to make the yurt cosy for your arrival. I don’t think your description of the composting toilet is quite fair. There is a clean proper toilet seat, as shown in the photo, not a ‘hole in the floor’. It is a composting loo, but it’s working well and doesn’t smell. There is also the flushing toilet and shower at the farm 10 mins walk away. There are sometimes a few insects in the yurt, but as you say that’s part of being out in nature – I’ve personally never seen a slug though. I try to go the extra mile to give all our guests a great experience and opportunity to spend time in this special place. I’m sorry that didn’t work out for you this time.

Great yurt, clean and simple with an amazing view down to the reservoir. Lovely local community coffee shop and store, nearby walking and close to several National Trust properties. Chris is a superb host.

Just back from the most wonderful w/end at Chris' yurt - the description and photos are very accurate but the real place is even better. The perfect combination of camping with just enough comfort. The field slopes away to the incredible view, the yurt is just lovely - very simple, very pleasing. Lots of birdsong, geese honking on the lake, stars at night, blackberries in the hedgerows. Very well thought-out. Our daughters (8 and 11) loved it too. we were very happy just pottering about, playing and reading round the camp fire but also did the trail walk - which is a good leg-stretch through lovely fields.

The yurt is really cosy and the views were amazing. It poured with rain for most of our second day, but the yurt stayed totally dry and we dried off nicely with the woodburner. It's a bit of a hike (15 minutes) to get a shower, so I didn't bother; there are water, a bowl, soap and towels at the yurt. The composting loo is perfectly respectable and the kitchen has everything you need for camp cooking. Pack light using a large backpack, and remember your dry shampoo, and wellies. And sausages. Really tranquil and relaxing break.

How amazing to have a whole field and views of a nature reserve to ourselves for 5 days. The sounds of the birds on the reservoir, woodpeckers and squirrels, the bats swooping around the yurt (outside, not in!) and the occasional deer. The field faces west so amazing sunsets. The stars late at night are amazing, especially this close to London. A fire every morning and blackberries galore for breakfast. A beautiful spot to stay, no doubt. The only blight on what was otherwise an idyllic location was aeroplane noise from landing and takeoff at Heathrow. I was surprised by this seeing as the Yurt is in North Kent. The flight path is mainly a few miles south of the yurt but the noise is present. We found it most disturbing after 9pm and before 7pm. Some days the flight path seems to move so the frequency of planes is less. I guess this is a small price to pay for what is otherwise a perfect wild getaway so close to civilisation.

This is a very special place. I went with my 4 year old daughter and we sometimes felt like we were the only people in the entire world. Magical. Thank you Chris for such a wonderful opportunity

I love the outdoors - walking, cycling, camping and canoeing, but most of all sitting around a campfire, chatting with friends. I host three venues in Kent, a yurt on an Organic dairy farm, and a guesthouse and a wild campsite in Yalding.
