We spent a very pleasant week at Sharon and Fred's house.
The house itself is a beautiful 19th century house updated with all the modern amenities. It can easily accommodate 6 people, and there is an extra sofa bed in the living room, as an additional sleeping space for 2 people. The house is fully "equipped", you literally do not need to bring anything, but your personal items (and beach towels)!
We were also welcomed with a gift basket with some wine and cheese, such a nice gesture from the owners!
Position of the house is very desirable, it has a spacious backyard and it offers fantastic views of lake Ontario from every corner of the lot!
The house is located in the Greater Napanee area, and the town of Napanee is about 20 km from the cottage. The whole area that stretches along the shores of Bay of Quinte is full of heritage, arts and culture events, parks and trails, antique stores, Wineries and Breweries and it is definitely a place to visit.
The house faces Loyalist Parkway rd., which is not busy a lot. As it is in the countryside, some wildlife could be seen, but not many.
Loyalist Parkway is the road to take if looking for the beaches, while enjoying beautiful lakeside scenic drive. There is a campground (I forgot a name...), about 15 km from the house, with a nice beach, and a small museum and for $5 a day you can enjoy it.
In about 10km further down the road you will reach the Glenora Ferry which shuttles cars to and from Prince Edward County at no charge (it operates between Adolphustown and Picton), and it goes, at least during the summer season, every 15 minutes. From Picton it is a short drive to Sandbanks Provincial park, with amazing sandy beaches.
The closest grocery stores are to be found in Bath, cute village located in Loyalist township, about 7km from the house. Apart from the small supermarket and few restaurants, there are some interesting historical sites to see over there as well, as Bath is historically important as the first main settlement of non-native inhabitants in the 18th century.
Finally, Sharon's house is the house for all seasons. I could picture us spending Thanksgiving weekend or even Christmas time while enjoying stunning views of Lake Ontario! I would highly recommend it!
