We were disappointed when we arrived. So much money that the owner Kim charged us! Everywhere was sand and dust, the windows and fly protections were so dirty that you couldn't open the windows without letting flies in. The house smelled like smoke and when we came home I had to wash everything again because everything smelled like zigarette smoke. There were hairs in the bathroom and we also had to clean the kajak for one hour before we could use it. We told the owner Kim and she was willing to give us back the cleaning fee. She texted us it is $100 so we were expecting that but then she just gave us $30. It is nice to have the lake just in front and it was nice using the pool even though it could have been more cleaned as well. We didn't have the feeling to be welcome, that the owner Kim took time to prepare, remove spider webs, dead flies and the dirt. The house itself is nice, one sleeping room is nice with paintings and candles. But in the other one there is only one bed and not even a table or anything to store things. There are holes in the floor. The patoon is shakey. We weren't using the boat but there still were old cans in it, so doesn't cleaned either. It is not worth the money they made us pay and we are sad that we payed so much to enjoy four great days and the house didn't look like anybody really care about having paying guests

I did have the house completely and professionally cleaned before their arrival. I paid $100 to have the home cleaned. When Iris expressed a concern about some sand and a small scrap of paper on the floor and such. I immediately offered to reimburse the cleaning fee which is $30. She must have misunderstood. She didn't speak English. I came to the house personally to give her a check. I asked if there was anything else she needed and she said she was good. I will definitely take note of her suggestions for future guests! The house is a cabin from the 1900's with many modern and fun updates. But yes there are some small holes in the floor and exposed ceiling. It is part of the charm. But I understand not everyone likes a lake cottage. I did dust the outside of the house. Unfortunately when you are dealing with a cottage on the lake cob webs do accumulate daily. It never occurred to me to wash the canoe. But I plan too from here on out. I have the windows professionally washed every year. But again the house is in the country. I open them often. I hope that my future guests will enjoy it and all it's charm.

Kim’s cottage has amazing views of the lake and we highly recommend staying there! It was beautifully decorated and was cozy. Driveway has enough room for 3 large SUV’s. The pontoon boat & hot tub were a plus and we enjoyed using them. Her cottage is located only 45 miles from downtown Chicago which was great because we visited some of the museums there. Her place is only a few miles from the local retail/grocery stores & restaurants which was another plus. We highly recommend going to eat at the Industrial Revolution Eatery & Grille. Fun for all ages! Our 4 year old loved the train they had running above our heads & the food was excellent too! Kim’s communication was phenomenal. She allowed us to have a late check out which was great. We had an issue with the TV once we arrived & she responded very quickly with how to fix it. This was not Kim’s fault at all but the 2nd night we stayed unfortunately a storm knocked out the power during the night and it didn’t go back on till the afternoon. Once again, Kim responded very quickly and confirmed she had city water vs a well. We had bought breakfast items to cook that morning and we had to improvise. We used the grill to cook since the stove was electric but we had fun doing that. :) Glad we had water though! The only small issue with Kim’s cottage was that the kitchen cabinets did not have handles & were hard to open. Other than that we had fun on our mini vacation & we would definitely stay here again!

Let me start by saying that Kim's communication was phenomenal! She responded almost immediately to several of my emails once we got into the house. I will start with all the good things; our absolute favorite was the hot tub overlooking the lake. It was our 15th anniversary and we spent the whole day enjoying the hot tub and the patio set and the View (and the boat) I also really enjoyed the fireplace because it was kind of cool in the evening and we sat on the couch with the fire going and it was very romantic. The only negatives I will say is that when we got there the house smell badly of cigarette smoke. However Kim was extremely accommodating to try to take care of the situation and the hot tub had sand in it and she was trying to help with that as well. We ended up just taking care of it ourselves. The other thing was the kitchen cabinets have no handles so it was very difficult to get the cabinets open and the coffee cups need replaced. It's an older home with old wood floors, very small half bath upstairs but nice improvements in other places. We highly recommend the restaurant "Industrial Revolution" in Valparaiso. Delicious meatloaf!!! Anyway despite a few issues we had a really good time!

This was a wonderful place to stay! My husband and I recently got married and we wanted a nice place to get away without having to drive too far. The house is amazing and beautifully decorated. The view of the lake is breathtaking, and the use of the pontoon and canoe was wonderful. The neighbors were also extremely friendly and got to meet a few people while we stayed. The location is great because its a quick 15 minute drive to the dunes or 10 minutes to go downtown and check out the shops and restaurants. We were not ready to leave, but we definitely plan on going back!

Lovely home on a beautiful lot. Gorgeous lake view and really nice amenities such as huge outdoor space, access to a boat, hot tub, and really cozy interior made it hard to leave. Would recommend and hope to stay here again in the future.

We we're absolutely thrilled on every count. The house was clean and comfortable. We loved the swimming, canoeing, and using the pontoon. Everything we have hoped for and more.
