Off the beaten path, and a bit off the grid. Enjoy all the beauty of Southern Ohio in an affordable cabin at the end of Vicksville Lane near Dock #3 at Burr Oak State Park.

Der Wohnraum

This cabin is nestled at the end of Vicksville Lane in full view of the Buckeye Loop Trail. Easy Hike to Dock 3. Please be aware this is a step above camping, but still roughing it. An inexpensive way to enjoy running water (in spring, summer, fall) and electricity, but there is no phone or Internet on site. There is however a radio and record player. Full size fridge and stove. Large toaster oven, and drip coffee maker (cone filter).

You will see giant birds, hop on Ohio's finest lake loop trail, and float in the middle of Ohio's hidden gem in the middle of Wayne National Forest.

There is a Kroger grocery store in nearby Trimble, which is an easy 20 minute drive from the Cabin. There is also a Walmart in nearby Athens (home of Ohio University) which is about 40 mins drive. There is also a hardware store in Glouster, Ohio called Darbeyland.

There are pots and pans, plates, mugs, utensils. There are no condiments, oil, etc, please be sure to bring whatever you need to cook.

The closest restaurant is at the Burr Oak Lodge (~10 minute drive). I often have lunch there and it is delicious. There are a couple restaurants in nearby Glouster, Trimble, and Mcconnelsville. To be honest I've only eaten at the Burr Oak Lodge while I'm down there.

I have also stopped for dinner about 45 minutes away in Nelsonville as it is on my way home to Columbus, Ohio. Rocky Boots has an outlet store in Nelsonville with a lot of discounted outdoor/hunting gear, as well as a couple restaurants, historic train rides, arts, etc.

Also, if you find the place truly lacking something I'm about 1.5 hours away and will do my best to bring it out to you in a timely manner. The neighbor has also kindly left her address and telephone number in the event of emergency.

Zugang für Gäste

You will have access to the entire house.

Interaktion mit Gästen

I am available via cellphone, there is also a very helpful neighbor Beverly. Feel free to to knock on their door if you need anything.

Weitere wichtige Infos

I do have two bb buns at the cabin. If this presents a problem for your or the little ones, let me know and I'll store them away during your stay.

The description of the lodge is accurate and honest. While the house itself has some issues (a few holes in the walls in closets and some of the rooms), a faint whiff of mildew when we first arrived (we opened the windows and it dissipated), and no cell phone reception, we greatly enjoyed the deck, as well as the record collection (lots of 70s singer/songwriter, rock, folk, etc). The main bedroom has a large floor to ceiling window, which is beautiful to look out, but could use a curtain for sleeping. Do bring your own food as there are few restaurants in the area. We did eat at the Burr Oak Lodge about 15 minutes away and greatly enjoyed the food and view. Good location for accessing the lake--which is beautiful. The loop trail was in good shape for a few miles, (head south from the boat landing) but north of the boat landing, the trail falls into considerable disrepair.

Off the beaten path and a real adventure. If you need a true getaway, book this residence. We connected as a family so much and I had only wished I had brought my laptop to write. I would come here again to write and hope to in the future.

This place is rather run-down. He does say it's a "step above camping", but as a warning, it does smell like mildew, the walls are peeling and the bedding was damp when we arrived. We thought the price was very high (we paid $160 for the night) considering what we received.

Hello and thanks for the feedback. I'm sorry you did not have a great time at the cabin, I've sent over a refund less cleaning fees. Also, based on your feedback there is now a dehumidifier in the 2nd bedroom and a small window air conditioner in the master bedroom to help with moisture. Hope you have a great summer and feel free to stop by to checkout the upgrades sometime.

The DVD player was not working so that was a bummer, we also had no cell phone service (Verizon) to contact our host for suggestions on how to fix it. However, it was still a great place to stay, very clean and the sofas were extremely comfortable.

I've since replaced the DVD player and installed a newer television. Cellphone signal is unfortunately still spotty.

Peaceful, relaxing, charming, cozy, clean, inviting, invigorating... the list goes on and on. Especially for being so deep in the woods, this slightly rustic feeling "cabin" was more like our personal home away from home, than a rented bnb. As well as being part of a decently large community spread throughout the surrounding hills and valleys, next door to a state park, and having plenty of direct neighbors, the place feels extremely secluded and at times like you're the only human for miles. Waking up to bird songs and cicada and falling asleep to the rhythm of rain drops falling through the dense canopy is an experience that is truly priceless. Specifically if you're seeking this. No landline telephone, no cable t.v., spotty iPhone service, and no wifi, leave you defenseless to the influence of nature over yourself. Theres 4g LTE at the top of the road if you get desperate. An impressive collection of vinyl records and dvd's will keep you entertained for hours anyway. If you're a little tech savvy you can hookup your iPod/Phone to the beautiful Harmon Kardon receiver and play your own tunes. Though you must beware, there are weeks worth of dvd's and blu-ray but as of July 2017 there is no working player. I purchased a cheap dvd player from wal-mart for my month long stay. Certain areas of the property at certain times of the day give certain cell phones basic reception for texts and maybe calls, and if you're lucky maybe you'll even be able to make a quick (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) post about how great it is to be consumed by nature and not technology for once. Extremely close to the amazing Burr Oak lake and completely surrounded by dense vegetation that extends in all ways for as far as the eye can see. The kitchen has everything you need other than food and certain misc. items. The oven is very new and very nice with full digital controls and a glass top. the deck is the place to be when its not raining and the entire place can be opened up to bring in the breeze, sunlight, sounds, and smells. Oh and the bed was surprisingly comfortable. The owner was extremely professional and pleasant to be in communication with. 5 stars. The neighbor was equally as pleasant to interact with and gave us even more peace of mind. Knowing that there are trustworthy people a stones throw away brought us a feeling of safety and security. Especially if you have kids, you won't have to worry about being in the middle of nowhere with no one to help in case of emergency. To be quite honest, there isn't a bad thing I can possibly say. I suppose some people may find fault in the fact of a few minor household repairs that need taken care of, or the fact that it is obviously still a work in progress. If you want modern, expensive luxury and pampering comfort, this is not the...

Rob's house is as advertised. There were clean sleeping spaces, though one of the bedrooms was very damp and musty and prompted one couple (of 2) in our group to use the provided inflatable bed in the living room rather than sleep in the second bedroom. The deck was delightful. There is a convenient fire circle at the far end of the house. Dishes, linens, kitchen, and bath were all clean. There was hot water (and great pressure!), but a seemingly small water heater - which called for strategic scheduling so all 4 of us could get hot showers. This wasn't an issue for us, as we didn't have any pressing plans, or places to be at specific times. Cell service is spotty, again not an issue for us, but be aware. The vinyl collection is varied and extensive, and we spun tunes the entire time we were at the house.

I'm a computer programmer living in Columbus, Ohio. I own a cabin about 1.5 hours from Columbus at Burr Oak State Park. I enjoy heading out of town on the weekends to hike around with our dog Ollie.

Recently married to a lovely woman. When we travel we rent homes much like the one I have listed. We have had the fortune of renting vacation homes in Paris, Iceland, and the US Virgin Islands.

I try hard to do more and talk less. The most important part of any journey is the courage to start it.
