Our Seattle home is a green retreat in an urban village -- we call it the Ballard Oasis. The perfect blend of old and new, the 1907 house has been fully renovated, with an open-plan main floor, a gorgeous kitchen, and original woodwork. The front porch and backyard are great for coffee or cocktails.
Formerly a sleepy Scandinavian fishing town, Ballard is now one of Seattle’s most fashionable neighborhoods. Downtown Ballard with its many restaurants, bars, and boutiques is a 10-minute walk away.
The renovation of our 100-year-old house took a decade and was a true labor of love. The house now offers the best of both worlds: modern amenities and updated systems alongside beautifully restored wood and details.
The main floor features high ceilings, an entryway, open kitchen, dining room, living room, and bathroom with shower; upstairs has three bedrooms and a full bathroom with a bathtub/shower. There's a porch in front where you can have a drink and say hi to neighbors who pass by. There’s also a more private and peaceful fenced-in backyard with a lawn and greenery; the back deck has a café table and chairs and a shade umbrella, and there’s a picnic table on the patio.
We have modern appliances: dishwasher, gas stove, microwave, convection oven, warming drawer, new clothes washer and dryer, gas heat, and a heated floor in the upstairs bathroom. There's wifi and a 40-inch flat-screen TV. There is no air-conditioning because it doesn't usually get very hot in Seattle; we do have fans if you want to cool off.
There are books in almost all rooms of the house. As a print in our living room says, “A room without books is like a body without a soul.” You’re welcome to read and enjoy them as long as you treat them well and leave them behind when you depart.
We’re centrally located in the Ballard Urban Village -- just a few minutes walk from all the amenities of historic downtown Ballard. There has been a lot of development in our neighborhood in recent years (as in many other Seattle neighborhoods). Our neighbors and their homes have changed, with modest bungalows replaced by larger, more modern structures, but our home remains the same: a green oasis in the heart of the urban village. And our tree-lined block remains peaceful, with friendly neighbors and families with small children.

Weitere wichtige Infos
Supplies: The house is stocked with some essentials -- coffee, tea, sugar, olive oil, spices, paper towels, trash bags, toilet paper, detergent, etc. There are two large supermarkets within 10 minutes walk (QFC to the west; Ballard Market to the east).
Quirks of an old house: Despite the modern renovation of the house, it is still 100 years old, so it has some creaky floorboards and fiddly doorknobs. If you want a place that's completely modern with no quirks, you'd best look elsewhere.
Stairs: The bedrooms are on the second floor and the stairs are steeper than those you find in more modern homes. The stairs are the original softwood and were lovingly restored -- they look beautiful, but can be a little slippery, so use the handrails if needed and watch your step. We provide slippers with grippy bottoms for you to use. The laundry area is in the basement, so that also requires use of stairs.
Kids: Children are welcome, but just know that our house is not specifically child-proofed. One thing to note: The handrail near the top of the main staircase is lower than regulation height.
Cleaning service: If you would like to have the house cleaned during your stay, that can be arranged for an additional fee.
When you book, we ask that you please give us your full name and street address, as well as the full names of other adults who will be staying.
CHECK-IN & CHECK-OUT
Check-in is anytime after 4:00 p.m. You’ll be able to check yourself in, so you won’t need to arrange to meet anyone.
Check-out is 11:00 a.m.
If you would like to work out an alternative check-in or check-out time, let us know as soon as possible and we will try our best to accommodate you.
QUIET AFTER 10:00 P.M.
Be courteous to the neighbors by keeping noise to a reasonable level, especially in the yard. Wrap up any boisterous conversations in the yard or outdoor music (or loud indoor music) by 10 p.m.
We, like many Seattle homeowners, ask that you don't wear shoes in the house. The floors are the original softwood fir, installed way back in 1907, restored in 2007 and in pristine condition. We have some slippers for your use, but you might consider bringing your own if you have a favorite pair.
NO SMOKING OR VAPING
No smoking or vaping of any kind is permitted in the house, on the porch, or on the deck.
