Beschreibung

1408 Hayes St. was the grandmother’s quarters for this wonderful building constructed in the late 1800’s. If you look around the neighborhood, the majority of the original structures were also built during this period. This jewel box studio is located up a private carpeted staircase in the rear of the building.

The large open room offers a queen-size bed with a headboard, which is located near the large double pane window to provide a pleasant view of the neighborhood right from bed. In addition to views, these South facing windows also allow for maximum San Francisco sunlight. To the right of the bed you’ll find a bookcase filled with hardback books, creating the perfect space to spend a relaxing morning. The closet contains hangers and a dresser to provide plenty of space for clothes, personal items and suitcases. In the closet you’ll also find down pillows for a restful night sleep. This apartment offers space to balance work and relaxation. The desk is perfect for working on a laptop or writing postcards, and the seating area provides another spot to relax in the sunlight.

The eating area welcomes two people and is located near the entry staircase. The efficiency kitchen is tucked behind the sliding door and offers all basic necessities such as dishes, silverware, pots and pans in the cabinets above. Please enjoy the soft drinks in the refrigerator as well as any staples stocked in the kitchen. I must warn you, the neighborhood is so tantalizing with its restaurants and coffee shops that you might not slide open the kitchen door!

The bathroom is generously sized (by San Francisco standards) with a charming pedestal sink, medicine cabinet for storage, large tub and shower, stone flooring and stone surround in the shower. My favorite thing about this bathroom is the large window which allows an abundance of natural light and air into the space. Please enjoy the towels, shampoo, body wash, hair dryer, and all other amenities ready for your use.

Wireless Internet is included in the unit, as well as most cafés in the neighborhood. This apartment also includes a flat screen television and cable. The heater controls this unit independently so please use as needed, although the apartment is well insulated with double pane windows so it stays quite comfortable.

One of the best parts about this wonderful space is its location. It is literally one block away from the Panhandle of Golden Gate Park! This park stretches across the city to the Pacific Ocean, making it perfect for strolling, jogging or a bike ride to the beach. Within Golden Gate Park there are many unique attractions that are favorites for both locals and tourists, including the California Academy of Sciences, the de Young Museum, the Conservatory of Flowers, windmills and even buffaloes!

In addition to Golden Gate Park, beautiful Alamo Square is only two blocks from the apartment. This park is made famous by the Painted Ladies, a spectacular row of Victorian houses that have been photographed hundreds of times. This park also offers a breathtaking view of downtown, making it the perfect place for a romantic lunch. From here you can see the dome of City Hall in the Civic Center neighborhood, which is a pleasant 15-20 minute walk downhill.

In the immediate neighborhood to the East, the Divisadero Corridor is only one block away. It is densely packed with numerous restaurants of all levels. From the famous Nopa restaurant to wonderful sushi to neighborhood Mexican food, this is your street. Now for nightlife! There are at least six happening bars located in this area, ranging from dive to lounge and everything in between. You can also catch a live show at one of the Bay Area’s best music venues, The Independent. But not to worry, you’ll only hear music with a ticket and not from your apartment. For that romantic picnic lunch in Alamo Square, I would go directly to Bi-Rite grocery store. This is a gourmet store featuring prepared food along with high-end fresh ingredients, fine wines and desserts. And don't forget Eddie's, our vintage coffee shop that has been in the neighborhood for 50+ years without changing a single thing. As a final note, the Sunday morning farmer’s market on Divisadero is a great way to explore San Francisco local culture.

If you're looking to make it up to Pacific Heights, it’s only a 5 minute car ride away. I would recommend shopping in Laurel Village on California Street, or on Sacramento Street, which offers wonderful one-of-a-kind shops, furniture, clothing, etc. And because this is San Francisco, there are also some great restaurants in this area.

Another neighboring area to explore is Hayes Valley, located just East of Alamo Square and about a 10 minute walk from the apartment. Again there are great shops, restaurants and bars. During the day the streets are packed, making it a great place to people watch.

The Castro, one of San Francisco’s most famous neighborhoods, is also about a 5 minute car ride away or 15 minute walk. This area offers unique shops, restaurants and the great vintage Castro Theater.

Not only is this apartment located in the center of culture, it’s also in the center of public transportation routes. All neighborhoods and sites listed above are easily accessible by Muni bus or train. The Muni bus #21 is one block away and runs to Golden Gate Park, through Hayes Valley, Civic Center and ends Downtown. The #24 bus is also one block away and will take you up to Pacific Heights going North and down to the Castro going South.

One block away from MUNI (bus) stop that connects you to all of San Francisco and the Bay Area.

I've lived in San Francisco for years and years, but have managed to sneak away to travel around the world. Most recently, I visited Turkey and Switzerland and my next trips are to France and India.
My favorite way to enjoy San Francisco is by trying a new restaurant, then catching a foreign film at one of the small theaters. As you can tell from my lengthy apartment description, I love exploring different neighborhoods and have lists of recommendations in my back pocket, which I'm happy to share. This is an amazing city with so much to offer!
