Der Wohnraum

Our home is a characterful, late Victorian house situated in the small town of High Bentham North Yorkshire. We currently have one double and one twin room available on the top floor. There is a separate bathroom on the top floor which is shared between the two bedrooms. When we have finished our refurbishments we will be able to offer two doubles and one twin.

Zugang für Gäste

Please note we are still renovating parts of the house and will also be having the driveway re surfaced later this year and the gateway widened - it is tight so please take care when driving in.

We are happy to let guests use the kitchen for tea and coffee making and bringing back a takeaway if desired. You are also free to sit out in the garden. Off road parking is available. Please ask about checking in times.

Both Shaun and I are very open and friendly and happy to give advice on local amenities, walks, local activities and attractions. We love meeting new people and sharing their stories and experiences.

Weitere wichtige Infos

This is our family home, we are not perfect, and as such we are sometimes a bit messy and untidy. We are also still updating parts of the house, but this would not affect your stay. We are not a hotel, and as long as you are happy with this we will we happy to welcome you. Built in 1897 St Margaret’s Vicarage is a superb detached family home situated in the small town of High Bentham in North Yorkshire. It is located within easy walking distance of the town centre, yet enjoys spectacular countryside views out towards the Church and the rolling Mewith Hills. Originally called Mayfield, it was commissioned by Anne Wilcock as a family home. In 1925 it was sold to the Diocese of Bradford and used as a Vicarage until around 2007 when it was put up for sale. Unfortunately standing empty for several years, then being rented out, took its toll on the Vicarage and this once beautiful house fell into a dilapidated state until it was bought by the present owners, Jane and Shaun, in 2013. By then it was in need of a complete renovation and over the past three years we have worked hard to bring the Vicarage back to life, sympathetically updating, whilst trying to preserve as many of the original features as possible. The late Victorian Gothic Deco style is reflected throughout maintaining the period feel of the property but not detracting from modern day comfort and use. The Vintage Vicarage currently has two rooms available, and when fully refurbished will be able to offer three beautiful and individually styled bedrooms. We are cycle friendly and have safe storage for bikes

We will accept small, well behaved, house trained dogs that get on with cats. We will happily provide a small wooden basket and blanket for your dog, so please no sleeping on the bed. We have been asked if dogs can have full range of the house, unfortunately not as Boris and Poppy wouldn't like it. Dogs are allowed in your bedroom and if you do bring a takeaway back can sit in the kitchen with you. Any questions please ask.

Außerdem musst du Folgendes beachten:
Treppensteigen ist erforderlich - We have the main staircase to the first landing then another small staircase up to the top floor bedrooms.
Haustier(e) leben im Gebäude - We have two cats Boris and Poppy they are very friendly and are allowed in all rooms except the top floor where the bedrooms are.
Einige Räume werden gemeinsam genutzt - The entrance hall and the top floor bathroom. Guests are welcome to use our kitchen for takeaways.

The old vicarage is a one minute walk from the train station and a great base for walking trips. Jane and Shaun are great hosts, very friendly and accommodating, and their home is lovely; full of great Art Deco furniture, artwork and posters which made the stay even more interesting. Highly recommended!

A great base for doing the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge. My son and I needed a twin room and, luckily, Jane provides a double and a twin bedroom for guests. The room was comfortable and the vicarage is a little rustic and quaint.

Hi Garry, I am a little disappointed with your ratings and would like to know how you think we can improve? Accuracy - I think the description of what we offer is accurate and the photos back it up. Cleaniness - what didn't meet your standards and why? Check In - I don't understand what was the problem I was there for you when you arrived and gave you all the information you asked for - how could I improve. Communication - I just don't understand this how could we have helped you any more? You also have to appreciate that if you tried to contact me by phone it may not have connected because we are in the country. Location? You knew where it was and chose to stay here? Value - you are paying less than half a B&B or Hotel would charge in this area and a lot less than than you charge in Thailand where prices are comparable!

Comfortable and very clean room in a beautiful location. My only regret is that ours was a flying visit and that we did not have time to walk in the countryside though we did get to Settle which is a lovely little town. Nice bathroom and friendly hosts.

Hi Helen, I am a little disappointed with your ratings and would like to know how you think we can improve? Communication - I just don't understand this, how could we have helped you any more? You say - host unreachable this is really unfiar, I was in the house at the same time as you - I live here. You say you could not get out in the morning and mobile phone seemed to be ringing downstairs - who takes a mobile phone to bed? All you had to do was tell me when you wanted to leave the night before or knock on my bedroom door. Eventually Carol got out of back door, but I had struggled with the key. Bit cscary to be locked in but I have now learnt that I should always ask ”. - Yes all you had to do was ask. Size of Room - there were photos to show the room and if you had wanted we would have taken the chair out so you could hav egot another suitcase in or alternatively we could have stored it on the landing after Shaun had carried your first suitcase up for you. Value - you are paying less than half a B&B or Hotel would charge - Air B&B is a different offer and maybe not one for you? The basic premise of AirBNB is simple: individuals rent out their homes (whether it be a room or their entire home) to travellers who are able to pay less than what a hotel room would cost.

I have a passion for travelling, ancient history and art, music, walking the mountains to the lakes, jungles to the sea, food and friends and laughing.

I got bitten by the travelling bug when I was 18 and hitched all around Europe visiting Paris, Venice, Pisa, Florence, Rome, Corfu and Athens to name but a few. The love of these countries and their spectacular cities, culture, history, people and food has meant I have never stopped travelling and wanting to explore – everywhere from Dambulla in Sri Lanka, Blue Mountains in Sydney, Franz Joseph Glacier in New Zealand, to Macchu Pichu in Peru, the Terracotta Warriors in Xian China and Ankgor in Cambodia.

I love art, craft and making things and am a collector, hoarder and recycler. From beach combing I make natural driftwood wreaths, socks are turned into monkeys, old wooden pallets into a 20ft long pirate ship for a party and cardboard into a totem pole. My husband and I also make and sell garden plaques, the designs are sculpted from clay, moulds made, then cast in concrete – Zeus, Easter Island Heads and the Green Man now peer from many a leafy garden wall.

Music has always been a major part of my life from that electric buzz of my first T-Rex single to the music revolution in the late 70’s…. the established all male, big stadium bands continued to tour whilst in the sweaty, dimly lit clubs and pubs up and down the country a nightmare erupted. A musical force so powerful that it provoked the kind of public reaction not seen since the birth of rock n’roll in the 50’s……Punk was my passion.

So I bought a guitar and got a band together – I sing, play and write and love performing. Not so much now, but I still like to go to gigs and festivals.

Cooking is great especially when you have grown it yourself – my veg patch is manic and I also love foraging and have made yummy blackberry and plum jams, sloe jelly and gin!

Oh and I love trying out new things…………………………….
