Ok, so this is more of an short review since have not retruned home to germany yet. this place is awesome. some sort of paradise. if you want to see more than the big citys, this is the place to go. a small village (maybe 60 people), 2 minutes walk to the sea, around you forest with wild apes in it. you can relax, go jogging, see the small temple and shrine, go fishing and swimming in the clear blue water, find a small shore with a wild waterfall to shower below... there is so much to do. and most of all, you can really calm down. also the family is very kind and friendly. you will love them but i dont want to take away everything. meet them yourself. you will not regret it. also the food is nice, fresh fish everyday and so much to eat, you can never finish it all. now to the 5 downsides: 1. it is far away in the middle of nowhere (but they take you everywhere you want by car so that is not too much of an issue) 2. it was really hot (i was there mid summer, but i guess this has nothing to do with the stay) 3. there is a little language barrier. but (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) translater helps and his son speaks quite good english. 4. there are many big insects. if you dont like them, make sure to keep every window and door shut at least by mosquito net. 5. there is a nuclear powerplant nearby. you can acutally see it from the guest house. the plant is safe but after fukushima, there was still a little concern with me. to sum up: some small issues, but overall great place. i would definitly recommend it and i suggest you go explore this place yourself, you will love it. sorry for all my misspellings

Before we came to Japan I had a dream of staying in a small village on the Japanese sea, in order to get a direct sense of what life is like in this area and to enjoy the landscape. Staying at Shusaku's place fulfilled this dream and much more: For, what I hadn't envisioned, was both the incredibly beautiful view from the 8 meter long window facing the sea, and the unbelievably generous and warm hospitality of the entire family. From the moment we were picked up by Akiro at the train station, and throughout the two days we visited, we were looked after with heartfelt generosity; from the delicious Japanese meals prepared by Etsoko, through the refrigerator packed with soft drinks and beer, sweets, fruits, cheese and nuts, the motor boat tour of the aquamarine fjord-like bay, to the conversations (sometimes with the aid of (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) translate) with the three generations of family all living together in the adjacent house. So, if you like what you've read and you're considering visiting this airbnb, here are a few recommendations: This tiny hamlet has just a handful of families, who tend tiny plots of land and fish with nets and poles. There are no shops or restaurants. It is perfect for those looking for a retreat-like experience--the 80 meter space has enough room to practice yoga and meditation, to draw and paint, and to write. Alternatively, it could be used as a base for day forages in the region--the area is absolutely gorgeous with myriads of tiny secluded bays and thick, green forests--if you rent a car in Higashi Maizuru, the nearest city. We couldn't find any trails in the thick forest, so our only choice was to walk along the paved road. The traditional Japanese house is an experience in and of itself, with wooden floors and sliding walls, straw matresses and rice- husk pillows. The weather was warm and humid when we were here, at the end of September, and the mosquitos looked hungry. Akira provided some special incense that kept them at bay, and we took advantage of the two airconditioners during the hot hours of the day. Please note, that although the space is seperate from the main house, it does not have a kitchen or bathroom, so it's more in the Airbnb category of "a room in a house"--the bathroom is shared with the entire family, who asked us what time of the day we'ld like to use the facilities and left to us during these times. If this is your kind of thing, you're in for a real treat. ENJOY!

This property is located in a quiet spot in a small village by the Sea! The host family is very friendly and helpful even we do speak a word of Japanese! We mainly communicated via (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) translator! The food prepared by the host family is very authentic and delicious Japanese family cooking! The soba and the miso-soup is not something you can find in a Japanese restaurant outside Japan. The noodles were very smooth, soft but not mushy! The miso-soup is rich and tasty!

Had an amazing time with the entire family. Couldn't recommend it more. Had delicious home cooked meals. Went out octopus fishing in the morning, which I had never done before. And had a blast playing Uno and drawing with all the kids all night. If you're looking to take public transportation you'll have to get a ride from the family, unless like me you love walking the countryside for 4-5 hours. But they are very willing to come get you and it will be a great little ride to the house. They mostly speak Japanese, but their eldest son does a great job with filling in blanks. Definitely worth the trip, go see them and tell them I said hello.

Hi, I'm Shusaku, the owner of the guesthouse 'Shirouzaemon'. We are a family of 9 (5 kids, 2 seniors, my wife and I) living in Takahama city, Fukui Prefecture. We made the decision to move to Takahama from the city a few years ago and do not regret it. Takahama is a tiny village by the sea that still retains the beauty of old Japan. Our family has greatly benefited from adapting to the slow and natural life in Takahama and would like to share this with the rest of the world. That is why we have built a private guesthouse next to our house for travelers from all over the world, so that everyone can have the chance to experience the natural and peaceful life of traditional Japan.
