What makes the Lyon's Creek United Church property so special is its history as the last refuge of the British soldiers on the last night, before the last battle on Canadian soil between the British and Americans in the War of 1812 - The Battle of Cooks Mills. Lyon's Creek was transformed from a country church into a luxury living space in 2016. Niagara Falls, Niagara on the Lake, Wine Country, Lake Erie... and all they offer are a short drive away. There is something for everyone in Niagara.

It's a bit confusing. The mailing address is Welland but the property is actually in Niagara Falls. You can see the mist from the Falls from the front door.

The building (very spacious kitchen and living room) was very impressive but the difference to other places we have been was the host Judy. She is very straight and uncomplicated but also tolerant. She is very good with kids of any age. Her dogs are very nice and will not be a problem to anybody. The kitchen is brand new but not completely equipped yet - but it is very good for cooking and meeting. The beds are very good and it is pretty quiet. We liked the fact that there is no TV in the main living area. Parking is possible in front of the house. You can reach the next grocery store in 8 minutes by car and the Falls in 15 minutes.

Duffy, Harry and I enjoyed spending time with your wonderful family. You men were very kind when I had trouble with the lawn tractor and you waited until I got it started before you headed out. You must be Canadian.

My husband, daughter and I stayed here while attending a family wedding in the area.We couldn't have asked for a better host.Pleasant, helpful and very easy going! Judy has certainly created a beautiful and unique space to welcome guests. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, everything was as stated in the listing. We would not hesitate to stay here (URL HIDDEN) added bonus was the company of her 2 lovely dogs! Definitely felt like a home away from home.

Judy was a great host for us. We really enjoyed staying at her piece of art house. We were impressed by uniqueness of the building and its amenities. It was a nice idea of Judy to renovate the church and turn it into a home and a welcoming place for visitors. Very spacious place, great kitchen and a clean shower. It has a cozy living room with an intimate touch to it. We enjoyed chatting with Judy and learning a story behind this place full of artifacts. The place is conveniently located near Niagara Falls. It was a special experience for all four of us and we will keep great memories about staying at the house.

We had a nice time at Judy's place. Our son just loved the place, Judy and her dogs. It was our first Airbnb experience and we are happy that it went well.

If I had to concisely describe my stay in a few words I would say: DISAPPOINTED, SHOCKINGLY UNCOMFORTABLE, and COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. I do not even know where to begin. I have NEVER left a bad review for an Airbnb host, and I have dealt with some unusual situations. I once stayed in an Airbnb that lost power for the entirety of my stay, and I still gave the host a perfect review because I knew that it was not her fault, and she was genuinely a nice person. However, I have NEVER been so utterly disappointed with my experience staying in an airbnb. I chose Judy's place because of the great reviews and the pictures, but I had a horrendous experience. The house was nicely remodeled, but the both rooms had very large windows in front of the beds facing just a full graveyard on the property. It gave the place an overall eerie feeling. To begin, I made my reservation far in advance anticipating a weekend with old friends in Ontario to visit Niagara Falls. I messaged Judy to notify her that we would be two couples and a 40lb labradoodle. She approved my reservation and seemed happy to host us. As the trip approached, I messaged Judy to remind her that we would be coming in the next day and discussed details of my stay. We agreed it was okay for me to leave my pet in her home in his crate while I went to visit the falls and ride the Maid of the Mist attraction, as the boat is not pet friendly. She seemed really friendly, and again agreed that my plan was okay. The following day upon arrival, I was met with a completely different attitude. It quickly became clear that Judy did not accurately communicate her expectations; We agreed it was okay for me to leave my pet in her home in his cage for a few hours and she changed her mind while I was gone. Once I returned and was finally able to charge my cellphone, I received numerous unprofessional text messages, voicemails, and even a threat to call the SPCA and "have my bags on the street" because I had left my dog in his cage (as she requested) in her home for a few hours. As I was reading her messages and listening to her voicemails, the police arrived to escort my party out of her home because we were "violating house rules". She had contacted airbnb and cancelled our reservation for the night, but did not even have the decency to let us know. We immediately left with no opposition, considering the uncomfortable tension that we had already been feeling, but had nowhere to go. Our options were EXTREMELY limited. This left us stranded on the streets looking for somewhere to stay, on a Saturday evening, with a dog, in a foreign country, on a holiday weekend. Her behavior was so out of line to the point where airbnb...

When Natalie arrived 3 hours late with no explanation or apology I thought she was just rude. When a large dog (that she had described as small and well-behaved - no weight details) bounded out of her car Natalie began to occur for me as deceitful. She couldn't control her dog and confessed he didn't behave well with other dogs. An honest guest would have disclosed this problem before they arrived as I have two dogs. When Natalie asked, "How long can I park illegally at Niagara Falls before I am towed because I don't want to pay for parking?" My worst suspicions about her lack of character were confirmed. Although it was made clear before she arrived that dogs are not to be left at the church she asked if she and her friends could visit the Falls (12 minutes away) for a boat ride and return for the dog. I agreed. Without walking the exuberant young dog that had just spent 3-4 hours in a car, they crated him, left him in their room and did not return for another 7 hours. Looking back I believe it was Natalie's intention all along to disregard house rules, dump the dog and go have fun with her friends. After 3 hours which was plenty of time to see the Falls and return, it was evident she wasn't coming back for the dog. I called Airbnb and they were terrific. Although all four members of Natalie's party had cell phones, Natalie could not be reached by Airbnb or me. Airbnb and I both had the decency to let Natalie know about our escalating concerns but we were unable to reach her. Airbnb was calling to let her know they had cancelled her reservation on my behalf and found her somewhere else to stay (details omitted from her over-dramatized synopsis). Originally, the authorities were for the dog. Confining a 6 month old dog for 10-11 hours is cruelty in my opinion. I was relieved and grateful the police arrived to manage the situation. Given her devious behavior and flagrant disregard for others I wasn't confident I could evict Natalie and her group on my own. The sight of the magnificent 380 year old White Oak tree and the historic pioneer cemetery in the property adjacent to the church shouldn't have been too much of a shock to Natalie as there is a picture of the view from the bedrooms in the listing. She cites the pictures as one of the reasons why she chose this location. I love being an Airbnb host and thoroughly enjoy accommodating and interacting with my guests. Every once in a while however, life throws you a Natalie.

A beautiful and unique home and an especially comforting stay for dog lovers like ourselves. The rooms were all very spacious and well laid out. Judy was a very kind host who we'd have liked to chat with more about her and the house's history but unfortunately we had to run. We would stay with her again.

I purchased a lovely, historic church in Niagara Falls south in 2016 and spent the past year transforming the space into a uniquely fabulous home. As an English as a Second Language teacher I have traveled extensively and it has been my pleasure to meet many, many wonderful people from every corner of the world. I currently run my own English language company, these days I do most of my teaching online.
My four children have grown and gone. My four grandchildren visit regularly and my career before teaching was training horses.
I collect board-game dice and I have thousands of them (but not at my house). I am a Nancy Drew and Murder She Wrote fanatic.
The Niagara region is a beautiful area with a rich history that I have enjoyed learning more about and being a part of as my home played a small role in the closing days of the War of 1812.
I look forward to sharing this special place with guests.
