Our Matheson Farmhouse is in Indian Brook on the Cabot Trail, 3BR, 1BA Cape Breton; spectacular ocean views; 100 acres.
Located on the historic Cabot Trail - a perfect getaway for those wishing to explore the beauty & wonder of Cape Breton Island. With oceanfront beach (accessible from neighboring property), pond, & river access, and 100 acres of woods (with wild blueberries!) to explore – adventures are just outside the door. We welcome all people of all backgrounds and have for over 16 years!
Matheson House is a rustic farmhouse with both a long family history in this community and past 16 years of hospitality hosting guests (this is our first season using air bnb). A place to come to go back in time a wee bit. We have 3 bedrooms on the 2nd floor where the full bathroom (very basic shower and tub) are located. The first floor has the ktichen and common space/ living room. All the rooms have wonderful views out across the Cabot Trail into the end of St. Ann's Bay as it flows out into the great Atlantic. Great views of the Bird Islands. This is a simple, non-luxurious, comfortable place to hunker down or use as a base camp to explore Cape Breton's world renown Cabot Trail. It is in Indian Brook (part of Englishtown) - a peaceful quaint town where you can get away from it all. Baddeck and Ignoish are both 30 minutes drive and contain grocery stores, restaurants, excellent golf courses, entertainment, etc. House is directly on Cabot Trail - and close driving distance to many attractions such as: Cape Breton Highlands National Park, Alexander Graham Bell Museum, the Bird Islands Boat Tour, kayaking tours, and famous hiking trails. Come in the summer to pick wild blueberries right outside the back door! Come in the Fall to view world famous foliage. Book early to stay in October to attend the world renown Celtic Coulours Music Festival. Rent kayaks from the lodge down the street to use in our large estuary pond that connects to both Indian Brook and the ocean. We supply each of our guests with a detailed letter with local suggestions for hikes, kayaks, river-walks, swims, live celtic music, and restaurants. This is a place you will not forget! Our goal is to make you feel right at home in this peaceful home with a view.

Our family is well connected in this community, so guests of ours are welcomed guests in the community! A benefit that not always something that comes with a rental.
I am the proud grandson of the 3rd generation occupant of this farmhouse- my grandmother, who was born here and whose first language was Gaelic. She and her family lived off the land fishing and farming and lived close to the earth. Her grandparents first came here from Scotland. I still have lots of family in this part of cape Breton. I happen to love the out of doors, kayaking, attempting to make benches (only thus far made 2 from scrap wood I found on our land :), ultimate frisbee, my spouse and young child and fair trade coffee. Climate justice is a major passion of mine, and social justice in general and issues around homelessness. I also spend my "extra" time serving as a minister of a wonderful and progressive congregation. Peace be with you and thanks for checking out Matheson house!
