Stay in the walkable heart of Chicago's North Center neighborhood - trees, yards, friendly people, great local restaurants and shops, safe day or night, and close to public transportation of many kinds. Feels more like a small town than the big city! LGBTQ, POC, Muslims, and immigrants are welcome and will find a safe space in my home!
This vintage second-floor apartment in a 100+-year-old three-flat house is a short walk to to two CTA Brown Line el stations, grocery stores, coffee shops, boutiques, breweries, restaurants featuring many cuisines (Thai is a specialty here, among others - please see Guidebook for a few of my favorites), a large regional public library, public parks, and the legendary Old Town School of Folk Music.
The guest room is cozy and quiet with one queen-sized (and very comfortable) bed. On it you'll find fresh linens (changed per stay and then weekly unless you request more frequesntly), extra blankets, a robe and slippers, plus a dresser, desk, closet with space and hangers for your things, and free wifi.
The other areas of the apartment are definitely open for your use but may be home to my various cleaning, study, or creative projects. There is often fabric, bike parts, or assorted "stuff" in the dining and living rooms. :)

Apartment includes use of kitchen, bathroom, dining, living, lovely porch, and back yard with garden. Bedding and towels, robe and slippers, electric kettle and french press or coffee maker are provided. Feel free to store your own food in the pantry, refrigerator and freezer, and cook to your heart's content during your visit! You may use my kitchenware. We have a summer farmer's market two blocks south, a Jewel supermarket just one block away, and Trader Joe's (another grocery chain) is a 15-minute walk away.

Although I can be gone much of your stay, I live here with my protective older dog, Lois, and a feisty poodle named Clarence. Expect Lois to bark each time you enter the apartment when I am at home, and sometimes when sirens come by - she is a very vocal companion and watchdog. There are also two dogs downstairs. So: be prepared for some dogs to be audible around the apartment during your stay. They should not enter your room, and there is a baby gate for you to (please) use to keep them out. My boyfriend may come over as well, and he can answer any questions as they come up, too. I'm happy to communicate with you via text, What's App, Viber, email, or phone.
Weitere wichtige Infos
Please let me know your arrival and departure details (time and mode) at the time of your reservation. Check-in and -out can be flexible, but I am often busy, or may have other guests checking in and out, so we will need to mutually arrange a time. I like to show guests around and personally hand over keys whenever I can!
BICYCLE: If you'd like to use the guest bike (a vintage Schwinn suburban step-through), please let me know when you book! Chicago is a great place to get around by bike. It's a comfortable upright cruiser with a step-through frame, and fenders. Chicago also has Divvy, our public bike-sharing system, and I have discounts for that, so you may choose to look into that instead, especially if you're traveling with another person or if you are taller than me.

Welcome! I'm a busy editor and nonprofit professional living in (and loving) Chicago with my two barky, wonderful dogs Lois and Clarence. Live music, films, and art of all kinds are my favorite things, next to bicycles and dogs. I enjoy rare travel, cooking, home projects, and meeting new people, and I hope you fall in love with this great city and its neighborhoods during your visit. My place is very homey and comfortable, and just a short train ride to downtown.
