Our stay at Vera and Don's was amazing. We had come up over Thanksgiving week to explore Western Carolina. Vera and Don were the perfect hosts for that! We learned so much of the area's history, and because the Farmstead is a treasure with a beautiful story behind it, came away f…

Candace, Matthew and Maddey (and Ellie): Don and I enjoyed having you all in our home at Thanksgiving. It was a special treat for us as well, and we always enjoy sharing the fascinating historical drama of this place, looking back through the well documented larger Appalachian lenses. Please do come again soon. If Holland House is still vacant when you come back, we will put you up there and you should just register under Guise Paradise and we'll go with that rate for now. Holland House is much larger and you all will be much more comfortable there. It, too, has a rich history of culture--the land and it's people. We got your message left on our voice mail but haven't stopped long enough to call back. I had 2 additional steroid injections in the occipital nerve last Wednesday and awoke on Friday morning with no headache! It has threatened to return several times since, but with medication and lying on the heating pad awhile, I get back up and go again! I have another appointment this Wednesday and we are scheduled to talk about the ablation treatment, which we learned last week, another medical group in Asheville DOES DO! Five years of combatting this thing and traveling east and west to no avail, and when I finally got so desperate I went to the emergency room at Mission in Asheville (nothing gained except 3 hours there hearing people and babies scream, getting a CT scan which showed nothing there (I told the kids it was empty all along!), and came home holding my head in tears. BUT for now I am better; actually went to church this morning, and hoping to learn more definite plans for a more permanent fix. Meanwhile, Don and I are decorating for Christmas, which I enjoy so very much. Looking forward to seeing you again. Don and Vera Guise (and Freck)

Don and Vera are wonderful hosts and the accommodations were great. The location is central the the areas that we explored and the quiet, hillside retreat was exactly what we were looking for!

This is a great space. Very roomy and clean. The secluded location is very peaceful yet only minutes from the Western Carolina University campus and other points of interest. Don and Vera are fabulous hosts. They made us feel like family. We highly recommend staying here.

Dan and Vickie, Thank you so much for your kind comments. We will, indeed, get some additional photos posted on our site, and a new bathroom mat! I could not believe I had forgotten that! Please tell Dylan we would love to have him come help us at Homestead Farm and any fraternities or groups he is involved in as well. Please come stay with us again, and ;let us know ahead of time what your plans are and I'll be glad to make breakfast or dinner! Don and Vera Guise

We are a retired couple and our co-host is our eldest son, Jeff, who took an early retirement last year to come and manage and grow Appalachian Homestead Farm and Preserve. Don and I both spent our careers in public service. Don was with the US National Parks, I worked in the NC …
