The Shack tops the list of secluded Minnesota cabins. Surrounded by blankets of snow covering the evergreens and frozen lakes, Loon Lake truly is a winter wonderland. The two bedrooms can be configured with two twin beds in each or a king bed in each or a combination. Sit by the massive stone fireplace on the pull-out couch or leather recliner and enjoy a relaxing evening. Bring some dvd’s to watch a movie at night or look out your window to see the northern lights or a starry night.
Winter’s up at Loon Lake are magical. One can experience peace and quiet of real solitude with winter activities right outside your cabin or a short drive away. Winter is the best time to see moose, wolves, and the northern lights. Loon Lake offers exceptional ice fishing for lake trout and endless nearby winter activities. Activities include over 70K groomed cross-country ski trails, snowshoeing, snowmobile trails, dog-sledding, and wildlife viewing.

We are pet friendly and realize many pets are family members. However, pets often act different in new places. Please do not leave your pet alone in the cabin. They often get scared and bark or scratch the doors. All pet waste should be removed from yards and driveways. And lastly, please be respectful and keep your pets off the furniture.

Be sure to let us know how many people you have and what sleeping arrangement (king beds, twin beds, or combination) you would like so we can provide enough towels and linens.
You will lose cell phone service outside the town of Grand Marais, however there is internet service inside the Shack. There is also a landline in the cabin to give us a call if you do need anything. Our house is at the top of the property.
My husband and I purchased Loon Lake Lodge on the Gunflint Trail in May 2016. It runs as a lakefront family resort and restaurant May through September. We love sharing our piece of paradise with guests from all over the world looking to hike, paddle, relax, and explore the Northwoods. However, it is just as beautiful up here during our off-season from October through April. My family and I are very active, especially during the off-season when we have time to snowshoe, ski, and ice-fish on our property. We thought we'd extend those activities to guests looking for the same kind of thing being able to stay in our one winterized cabin. We hope you enjoy the peace and quiet on Loon Lake.
