Recently remodeled kitchen - it's small (by U.S. standards), but has everything most people need. (If you don't see what you need, just ask.)1955 Westinghouse range is on the right, view of neighbor's back yard through windows (better, of course, when curtains are open).

Charming funky cottage in the heart of one of Seattle’s best neighborhoods, Wallingford. While there is plenty of parking, you may not even need your car to enjoy what Seattle has to offer, as my 1905 home has a Walk Score of 91 and Bike Score of 85.

Die Unterkunft

This is one of the original houses in the Wallingford neighborhood, built in 1905. It was built at the very back of the lot (though in 1905 it was at the base of a small hill, now my neighbor's back yard), and subsequently has a big front yard and plenty of air space around the house. Many of the houses in Wallingford are built quite close together, but my house has clear access to sunshine and garden views, particularly on the south side.

The neighborhood used to be covered by an apple orchard, and we have one of the original trees, a Gravenstein apple tree.

Zugang für Gäste

Since this is a room in a house, you have full access to the shared places in the house: kitchen, living room, yard. You know, like a normal house.

Interaktion mit Gästen

While I'm quite social, I can adjust to whatever level of interaction/non-interaction you prefer. As this is my home, I will be in and out of the house just like any other day.

Weitere wichtige Infos

Please note that the house is a work in progress! While the house is all that one would expect in a home - warm, safe, quiet, and cozy - it has been radically transformed over the last 15 years and is still undergoing the final bits and pieces of a massive remodel. If you are expecting a completed work of art of a house, well, we're not there yet: windows need trim, some walls need paint, the stairs inside the house are still construction treads (very strong and functional, just ugly), the tub surround needs tile. But if you like warm, cozy and a bit out of the ordinary, this is the place for you!

Guide to Joey's Palace

•Please, no smokers, of any substance (cigarettes or pot). (Note – not just no smoking in the house, no smokers. Thank you in advance for your understanding!)

•This is a shoes-off house (if you ever refinish floors yourself you will fully understand this policy!) Bring your favorite slippers if you have them, but there are also slippers available here. Pick a pair of slippers from the red basket by the door for your time here, and leave them on the floor by the front door when you leave so I can wash them for the next guest.

•As this is Seattle and the resident and owner of the house has a background and interest in environmental issues (and because it just makes sense), please recycle and compost when you are here. (Welcome to Seattle!)

•Please park in front of the house if at all possible (there is usually a space available) to minimize the impact on my neighbors.

Bottom line: please take care of my home as you would wish for me to take care of yours - clean up after yourself, recycle, be kind, the usual.

Security: please keep the front door locked unless you are hanging out at the dining room table, living room, or kitchen. Please make sure the door is locked when you leave the house.

Plumbing: Like the house, the plumbing from the house to the street is over 100 years old and is, therefore, quite delicate. Please do not flush any products other than toilet paper.

•The front porch light is kept on throughout the night.
•The light next to the couch in the living room in on a timer, so please do not turn off.
•Light in the upstairs hallway: there is a two way switch for the hallway light. The downstairs switch is at the base of the stairs just behind the hutch by the yellow curtain. The other switch is on the wall at the top of the stairs.

Recycling, compost, trash: there is a guide to all three on the front of the guest refrigerator. All three receptacles are located in the kitchen:
•Recycling is under the kitchen sink on the left in the gray bucket
•Trash is on the inside of the right door under the kitchen sink
•Compost is to the left of the kitchen sink on the counter.

Food, fridge appliances:
•Fridge: there is a refrigerator for guest use under the stairs. Feel free to leave anything you can't take with you and we'll make sure it goes to good use!
•Space to store food: there is space in the lower cupboard to the left of the stove for guest food. Feel free to push my things aside is you need more room.
•Food for guest use: help yourself to the coffee (in the box in the space described above) and coffee filters, tea (just above and to the right of the sink, and the second shelf up to the left of the stove).
•Toaster oven, coffee maker, water heater: feel free to use any of them during your stay. Note: the coffee maker does not turn off automatically, so please remember to turn it off when you have completed your caffeination.

My stay at Sheryl's was lovely and I'd certainly stay there again. As the listing states, the room is rather small & cozy, but who needs a bunch of extra room while sleeping??! Wallingford is totally charming with great nearby food options & lots of bus options to get downtown. Oh, and Sheryl is a lovely host!

Sheryl's place was perfect for my weekend getaway. Wallingford is a wonderful neighborhood within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. The room and bed were clean and comfortable with lots of natural light. Sheryl was helpful and communicative during my stay. Really enjoyed my time in Seattle especially since I had such a great place to stay in!

My husband and I stayed at Sheryl's house for the first half of our honeymoon. This was our very first place to stay in Seattle, ever. We loved the neighborhood, with so many beautiful houses and trees and flowers. It felt safe and we enjoyed walking around. You can even walk to the zoo or Gas Works park (as featured in 'Ten Things I Hate About You') if you want! There are plenty of restaurants in the area, and a grocery store is just a few blocks away. Although Sheryl is updating her awesome turn-of-the-century house, it was still very comfortable for us, and she had everything we needed, with labels keeping us informed. For the second half of our honeymoon, we stayed at a Marriott downtown, and honestly, we both agreed that we preferred the stay at Sheryl's much more, partially due to the positive interactions we got to have with Sheryl and the other guests, and also for the closer connection to nature that the area away from all the cars and construction that are ubiquitous downtown affords.

Don't let curb appearance stop you from renting Sheryl's place! Just imagine it's an episode of "This Old House" mid-project. The guest bedrooms are clean, cozy and super quiet. This is a very special home and was a comfortable place to get a good night's sleep. Pros: Close to EVERYTHING - parks, coffee, restaurants, grocery, bus stop. Comfortable bed. Good water pressure. Guest areas of house are clean. Located in a safe neighborhood, lots of very friendly people out walking their dogs. Considerate and friendly host with tons of tourist brochures and resources available. Fresh fruit straight from the yard. Cons: West bedroom is tiny... maybe 8'x8'. If you need room to spread out your things, rent the south room (which is just as cute in person). Lots of construction projects going on in this house, so some spaces are a little rough around the edges. Long walk to front door with no sidewalk, so you have to pick up those roller bags - and your shoes might get muddy if its raining. Sheryl's house was perfect for my 2 night Seattle vacation, and I would happily stay with Sheryl again.

Outgoing, cat-lover, work in non-profit, and crazy about tiny houses. [Don't know why - I blame my parent from our time living in a converted school bus (very cool!)]

I traveled on and off for several years, but have been firmly anchored by my home for about 15 years. Ready to travel a bit more again, and always enjoy meeting interesting people from far away - and nearby - places.
