**Note: If you book through this listing, I will be staying in the home during your stay. If your party is large enough (9+ people), I can give up the master bedroom for the couch, but that will have to be worked out on an individual basis.

Description:

My home is a spacious, fully remodeled with modern updates, 2400 square foot American Foursquare located on a beautiful boulevard in the historic Old Oaks neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio. You can look this up and coming hood up on the web. There's nothing like it!

Centrally located off the Livingston Corridor on the Near East Side (a few miles SE of Broad and High, the epicenter of Columbus), Old Oaks is Columbus's first and most well-preserved streetcar suburb. The neighborhood is famous not just for its architecture and history, but also for being one of the last neighborhoods in America where we know our neighbors. Each Wednesday, a different neighbor hosts a social hour on their porch and close to 30 neighbors stop by to catch up with one another. So bizarre is this in modern America that we were featured in the Washington Post for it*.

My home is central to most attractions in town, but is within walking distance to Nationwide Children's Hospital, so it may be of particular interest to families visiting the hospital or doctors doing rotations. It neighbors German Village, Old Town East, Franklin Park and downtown, and is a short distance to the Short North, the OSU campus, Grandview and other central neighborhoods. Also a short bike ride from CCAD and Columbus State if you happen to be visiting either of those campuses.

The home features 4 bedrooms, and the following bed options:

1 queen size bed
1 queen size futon
2 full size beds
2 full size futons
1 couch
1 bay/reading window with memory foam mattress
2 queen size air mattresses available upon request

These alone can sleep up to 14 people. If you are down with floor space or air mattresses, you could easily sleep 20 here (numbers of this magnitude will require significant advance notice and a discussion between both parties). This listing is for those who need the space, but not the privacy.

If you do not like my rates, please put American social norms aside and negotiate with me. I'd rather book you than not and the worst I can say is "no." That said, you don't have a lot of options like mine out there; I've looked.

The guest bathroom features a standing tiled shower and a jetted whirlpool tub if you need to wind down from a day on the town. I've only moved here recently so while the bedrooms are furnished, they are minimally so as furniture acquisition is an ongoing process. The kitchen is available for your use as well if you prefer to dine in rather than take in some local cuisine from one of our many popular restaurants.

There is a large porch that overlooks the boulevard for you to enjoy, or sit on the patio out back and enjoy your morning coffee. You should know that I own a large dog and a smaller, less friendly dog is also often here. They are restricted to their den when I'm not home and the first floor at all other times. You will never come in contact with them if that is your desire.

In addition to the lovely home, by booking with me, you also gain access to an insider's view of Columbus. I have lived here since 1999 and have friends who have lived here their whole lives who comment that I know more about the city than they ever knew possible. I am well tuned-in to events going on in the city, and can recommend restaurants or attractions to suit any taste. If you like to explore, I can show you parts of this town most don't even know exist (you'll see one such area just by staying with me).

Best of luck on your search and have a lovely stay in Columbus, whether you choose my Old Oaks home or not!

All common areas and 2nd floor bedrooms. The master bedroom is only available to parties of 9 or more by special request.

I will interact with my guests as much or little as they like. I am an expert on all things Columbus. Some former guests call me Mr. Columbus! I can guide you around town to the hottest spots, best restaurants, trendiest restaurants (not always the best!), etc. And if you need a tour guide, we can make that happen. Brewery tours, city tours, neighborhood tours, home tours, historic tours, I can build'em all at your request.

I give a detailed guide to confirmed guests with extensive tips and services about getting around Columbus. Again, I can pretty much guarantee no one does it better or knows more. I can tell you a taxi that will be there in three minutes. I share the secret pretty readily, but not to just any ole body!

I'm a communications specialist (read: marketing/writer) located in Columbus, OH. I am originally from WV, but moved here many moons ago to attend The Ohio State University and have since made this my home. I know nearly everything there is to know about Columbus, and if you're looking for more than a place to lay your head, I'm the host you want when visiting this city.

I spend most of my spare time reading, writing, dancing or riding my bicycle. I also enjoy a good happy hour and live shows.
