This house is massive and has a fresh, well coordinated colour scheme lick of paint everywhere in and out of the building, but it stops there. The house is not lived in, completely empty property. Not Air BNB ready at all. my heart sunk when I entered the house. The house was vis…

Dear Ma Patience, Thanks for the comments submitted after your stay in our house in Ghana. We really appreciate your feedback as it will afford us the opportunity to put things right. We, however, would like to comment on the issues raised: 1. Re: Dirty and Unclean House The house is located right next to a building construction site where work is on and off. It is therefore difficult to predict the amount of dust blown from the site when work is on-going. Your brother can attest to the fact that the place was spotlessly clean and free from domestic insects when he did the initial inspection before your arrival, certainly that gave you the assurance to sign on and take the offer, which at the time you were full of praise about the entire package. We have decided to heed your concerns and have resolved to keep an eye on the dusting and cleaning of the house consistently until the construction work is completed. 2. Re: Kitchen. Depending on the time of the year certain insects are attracted especially when food and crumps are left unattended. It is therefore the responsibility of the occupant of the house to ensure that dirty dishes are not left overnight, all surfaces are wiped and the kitchen floors are cleaned before going to bed. The services of a fumigation expert has been engaged since your departure to have the whole house fumigated. Admittedly, we were overwhelmed by the number of guests you had in the house, as during your request through Airbnb, you stated ten (10) guests but ended up with almost double (17) the agreed number. The hike in numbers naturally caught us unprepared in the provision of kitchen cutleries and other cooking and eatery items; we tried our best to make your stay pleasant by quickly going out to shop for more items. To meet your demand, we brought in a new 4-burner cooker with an oven to replace the 2-burner cooker which was there upon your arrival. If we are made aware of such huge numbers in future adequate provision will be made to cater for them. We have taken a cue from what happened and as part of lessons learned from our very first client decided to work on our house rules so communication between our future guest and us will be evident to meet each other's needs. 3. Re: Rubbish Collection and Cleaning. It appears there was miscommunication to you about the house rules and we accept full responsibility. The cleaning arrangements was supposed to be once a week and also depended on your availability. That was all the more reason why the cleaner had to come in on Sundays because those were the days you were at home due to your busy schedule prior to the burial of your mum. For security reasons, we could not have entered the house in your absence. Rubbish is collected once a week in the neighbourhood with the bin placed outside the house. The rubbish collection company failed to collect the bin because it was kept in the house and they had no access. We have requested the company to ring the doorbell when the bin is not placed outside in future. 4. Re: Electricity and Water All domestic electricity meters in Ghana are currently prepaid meters which we house owners don’t have control over. Unfortunately, most of them don’t give any notification when your credit is about finishing. I made sure you had a minimum of one-month supply on your arrival but as I stated earlier, this was planned with the initial number of guest (10) agreed on and since utility consumption is subjectively based on individual needs provision was made for you to top up any time there was an increase in demand which was well communicated. We are in the process of installing a backup power supply to prevent future guest from experiencing unplanned blackouts. The water supply was very unfortunate, and I take full responsibility for not alerting you on the rear occurrence of shortage of water from the reservoir when the taps stop flowing especially in the instance where there is a large number of guests. I have included these in our rules for future guests. And have also purchased extra overhead reservoir. 5. Re: Gas cylinder, Bed sheets and Bath Towels. The cylinder supplied was to last for a minimum of a month before replacement. It should be noted that each room had extra bed and bath sheets. We intend, however, to increase the numbers based on the number of guests if we were notified early. We got overwhelmed with the numbers and you being our very first guest, it came out in your experience. I apologies for the service, and hope you can understand there is always a reason-however inexcusable. I do hope you don’t judge us by this one experience as I do hope the place provided a nice venue for the parties you held there. We thank you for your comments and hope you will also share some of the positive aspects of your experience in future. Before even receiving your comments we were in the process of installing air conditioners to help check the dust nuisance. We are prepared to improve upon the facilities available in the house and you are invited to stay there anytime you visit Ghana.
