Combining history with modern amenities, this beautifully restored loghouse occupies 156 acres on Hastings Lake. Offering tranquillity in a natural setting, this heritage site is a short 45 minute drive to Edmonton. Experience a real pioneer home!

Der Wohnraum

Stay in one of the oldest homes in Strathcona County. This is your chance to experience an early pioneer home without sacrificing modern amenities. While maintaining the original character of the loghouse, newer additions have included a full kitchen, heated floors, bathroom and laundry facilities. While the loghouse provides lots of space in which guests can relax and enjoy their stay, the layout for the bedrooms is unique. There is a loft bedroom with a queen bed that has a full staircase leading up to this bedroom. The sleeping nook has a single bed with privacy curtains and is located on the main floor and close to the bathroom. In the living room, a sofabed pulls out into a double bed. In addition to the above sleeping arrangements, a small cabin adjoining the loghouse called the Lazy S has a queen bed with its own private porch. There are no bathroom facilities in the Lazy S; however, it is a short walk to the facilities in the loghouse.
In addition to the loghouse, the property also features many historical items including an old bunkhouse, a Swiss-style logbarn, antique farm machinery and an old boat once used for a tourist camp on Cooking Lake in the 1930's. Kilometres of trails throughout the property introduce you to the native flora and fauna in this area. As a wildlife preserve, the property has been maintained in its natural state. Situated on the shores of Hastings Lake, there is access for canoe and kayak enthusiasts. Spend the day paddling on the lake and exploring the many islands of Hastings Lake that are protected as Bird Sanctuaries. Our property also boasts a 70 acre Ducks Unlimited Conservation Area. If you are looking for a peaceful location in which to enjoy nature, this is the place for you.

Instead of staying at a motel for a wedding in Camrose, we stayed at Martha's place, and were absolutely smitten on arrival. We loved the peace and quiet, the ability to not use our cell phones, and to just have lazy mornings, surrounded by beauty. We will definitely be staying here again the next time we visit!

Absolute Heaven! Again! This is my second time staying here. The first time was in February and was wonderful and cozy. This time it was completely different landscape, with carefully mown paths to walk along through rolling hills and along small local lakes. Beautiful. The cabin is still amazing and quaint and modern (EMAIL HIDDEN)pletely outfitted for every need. The screened in porch was an absolute delight from sitting quietly and reading to enjoying meals to playing board games with family. It was definitely our favourite space. We will stay here again!

Loved it! The historic cabin is only one part of the cottage, forming a cozy living room and upstairs bedroom. There have been a number of additions including a large and modern kitchen, and two screened-in verandas. The whole thing is tucked away in the woods, wonderfully peaceful and quiet. Martha also mows trails through the long grass so that you can easily access the entire acreage when out for walks.

This was our fourth visit, so the love we have for the place should be obvious. There is something so peaceful, and so special about this amazing little gem. If your usual preference is the sterility and sameness of chain hotels (water slides and continental breakfasts), and if being without WiFi is something that you just can't imagine, then maybe Maggie's Hill might not be for you. But if you're willing to step outside your comfort zone, and experience nature, and the joy that comes from connecting with those you love, rather than connecting to the internet, you'd be in for a treat at Maggie's Hill. Sometimes, when there's "nothing to do" (i.e. internet and TV), you'll find endless possibilities with "so much to do". We love the log house and will be back as many times as Martha will have us.

Another great stay at Maggie's Hill! We'll be back again for sure!

Martha is the perfect host. She met us earlier than our agreed upon time & gave us a lovely historical tour of the property. The space is absolutely dreamy. It's well laid out & spacious for the six people in our group. The decor is quaint & cozy & makes you feel nostalgic for days gone by. Thank you Martha for caring for this magical historic site.

I enjoy spending time in the outdoors including hiking, biking and horseback riding. I value heritage and have enjoyed a career in museum management. Personally, my husband and I have owned historical properties that we have strived to restore back to their original character. …
