Die Unterkunft
Set in lovely countryside, yet only 2 miles from Exeter Cathedral. Step out of your own dedicated front door into an idyllic courtyard setting of specimen trees surrounded by woodland and farmland. There is a pretty gravel courtyard area right outside your door, with rattan furniture and giant cushions (in the summer months) for breakfast or evening drinks. The birdsong in our little woodland dip is simply magical.

Ideally suited to a single professional or commuter, though we have had hundreds of couples stay, and even small families. If you are happy for the second single bed to be pulled out and raised to an equal height to make a king, then couples are more than welcome to enjoy this intimate space. One of only two self-contained Airbnb properties on this picturesque rural site.

The self-contained studio cottage holds 3 beautifully presented areas with cute decor touches & characterful, quirky style... The main studio is a 12x12ft living and sleeping area, and has a chic leather sofa; the solid wooden bed opens out into 2 full size singles that can be arranged at level height close together to create a king size sleeping space or can be set a little further apart, and which can also be used for lounging in the day.

The separate kitchenette area has a great Tepenyaki grill, mini oven, grill, 2 ring hob, a steamer, a slow cooker, soup maker, microwave, soya milk maker, toaster, kettle, cafetière etc. There’s an extendable dining or working table, a good selection of DVDs for adults and children; interesting art, an occasional table, clothes hanging space, drawers, interesting books, local maps and guide books, good board games, chess etc.

We also provide additional sleeping options and a toy box for younger guests as required. The two further spaces house the kitchenette which leads in turn onto the shower room and loo, which is separated off by a posable wooden wallscreen you can arrange to suit your preference.

You have a courtyard style outdoor seating area right outside your door, complete with lanterns and candles.

Extendable/flexible wooden wallscreen provides bathroom privacy.

Both wood framed beds are extremely comfortable and sturdy. Slide the second bed out from underneath the top one and raise it up to the same height to create a king size sleeping space. (Not necessarily suitable for the elderly or infirm since you need to bend to slide and raise the secondary bed to level height if required).

Please note that there is no terrestrial TV channel access, though Netflix etc is available.

The Goose House has everything you’d need and is so comfortable, warm and pretty. The kitchen has countless cooking gadgets including a Tepenyaki grill... there is also a new slow cooker, a steamer, a soup maker, soya milk maker, microwave, toaster, mini oven, grill, 2 ring hob etc.

3.1 miles to Sandy Park Rugby Stadium; 2.1 m to Exeter Cathedral; 2.2 miles to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital; 3.1 miles to University of Exeter. Free, easy private dedicated parking right outside your front door. Bus stop just up the road - 10 minute walk to the bus for downtown Exeter. Beautiful rural hiking from the door. Let us know if you’d like hiking tips and directions.

Zugang für Gäste
Pretty outdoor courtyard seating right outside your own front door for the summer months. Dedicated parking space right outside your accommodation.

(Beds not necessarily suitable for the elderly or infirm since you need to bend to slide and raise the second bed to level height if required to make the equivalent of a king size bed space).

Weitere wichtige Hinweise
Mind the pond in the meadow, especially with little ones.

Giant fluffy dogs reside on this property.

Your kitchenette includes a mini oven/hob. You have a fabulous, easy Tepenyaki grill which is great for cooking eggs, meat or veg, a microwave, electronic slow cooker, soup maker, electric steamer, cafetière, teas, fresh ground coffee, milk, and pretty much everything else you can imagine utensil wise. If you’re missing something, do please just ask! We are very happy to help if we can. Please note that currently the TV is for playing a large selection of DVDs. Netflix also available. Terrestrial TV channels coming soon.
Extendable/flexible wooden screen provides bathroom privacy.

The Goose House comprises 3 discreet spaces - the living / sleeping studio area of approximately 12x12 ft sq; the kitchenette and the bathroom. Outside space and dining furniture is all yours to enjoy in addition to this.

The second wooden bed slides out from under the first and raises to level height, effectively creating the dimensions of a king size bed. (Please note that this arrangement is not necessarily suitable for the elderly or infirm since you need to bend to slide and raise the secondary bed to level height if required).

Please be mindful and turn off your heating when leaving the Goose House for any substantial length of time. Thank you.

Planning your stay at the Goose House

I recommend the tiny - if slightly pricey - Dr. Ink’s Curiosities down on Exeter Quay for a truly exquisite Victorian-themed cocktail; the Nobody Inn in Doddiscombsleigh is a twenty minute drive away down winding country lanes for a rural old world pub lunch or supper (book ahead); if you’re downtown, head for Gandy Street, which inspired Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter books, and has some good Indy shops, eateries and bars; the award winning and beautiful RAMM museum in Queen Street is really worth a look, and nearby the Phoenix Arts centre has some great international arts and music events. The Double Locks is our closest, lovely pub on the river - great for lunch, local ales (and occasional suppers - check ahead). Exeter Picturehouse is our fantastic local art house cinema where you can recline on a velvet sofa with a beer and interesting snacks; Go Ape in Haldon Forest, just around the corner from us, will have you flying through the tree canopy, and the hiking and bike hire in Haldon Forest and the paddle board or kayak hire along the River Exe all mark only the start of wonderful things to do in just minutes from the Goose House. Do please message me on here for more ideas of things to do which may be more suited to your own personal tastes. There is so much more! Our Airbnb guide book section on the website has a few additional details, and there are maps, leaflets and guides in boxes and on shelves inside to Goose House itself too. See you soon!

Tam: I'm involved in postgraduate research, and started making use of travelling with Airbnb in 2016. And now it’s our turn to give back. So far hosting has been a total pleasure. We are equally delighted with the unobtrusive self check-in as the guests who’d like to hear all about this beautiful part of the world and how to make the most of it. My husband Peter shares the hosting with me. He’s a television news correspondent. We look forward to welcoming you to this idyllic spot.
