We live in New Orleans but we have a guardian (caretaker) that is on the premises to take care of your needs and if a problem arises, we also have an offsite manager for you to contact.
The village of San Marcos La Laguna is referred to as the"spiritual capital" of the lake. Many services are offered: yoga, meditation and massage classes, as well as Spanish lessons, to mention a few.
Inexpensive boat "launchas" or water taxis are readily available for transport to neighboring villages. Local "tuk tuk" drivers are for hire for short distances by road and can be found in all villages on the lake.
No smoking anywhere in the house! Smoking is allowed on outdoor galleries and terraces, but all ashes and butts have to be removed. Butts and/or found in garden beds, base of galleries or terraces will result in cleaning charges against your deposit.
No glassware outside of the house. Multiple plastic glasses and service ware are available for use at pool, patio and lakeside areas. All kayaks, paddles, lifejackets and deck chairs that can be used on lakefront deck, towels or outdoor service ware must be put away upon completion of use. Any lost or stolen items will be charged against the deposit.
Dogs are allowed as long that they are at least 1 year or older and have been spayed/neutered with flee and tick protection. They are not allowed on beds or furniture. Any toiletry accidents in the house on rugs or floors will be charged an extra cleaning fee taken from the deposit. Dogs can be "walked" either outside along the road or the area between the lower gate and dock. In either case please curb your dog and throw droppings in the trash.

We live in New Orleans, Louisiana and try to live life to the fullest and surround ourselves with like minded people. We are total foodies and New Orleans has some of the best food in the world in addition to great music and nightlife. We've renovated several historic homes and enjoy antiques and architecture. Traveling and staying in unique and interesting places around the world also appeal to us. Some of our favorite places to visit are New York, Paris, Italy, and of course Latin America where we discovered Lake Atitlan. The English writer Aldous Huxley wrote, "Lake Como, it seems to me, touches on the limit of permissibly picturesque, but Atitlan is Como with additional embellishments of several immense volcanoes. It really is too much of a good thing." That pretty much sums it up. I first visited the lake in 1980 while I was attending a nearby Spanish language school. When I came back for a visit with my wife several years ago, we both fell in love with the Lake. It was just as beautiful as I remembered but now has many restaurants, a nightlife, and activities. Traveling extensively as we do we have rented many places around the world and so are familiar with what makes a place comfortable and desirable. We have incorporated our experiences in designing a house that is both a great place to just hang out and relax or use as a base for exploring the fascinating highlands of Guatemala.
