We enjoy welcoming guests to "Rongahuset", our 1923 family home, in beautiful village Evanger, near Voss, Norway. We have two private rooms and a shared dorm, all with access to the family living rooms and kitchen; we offer comfortable beds, home-cooked food, and a family atmosphere. The house is not luxurious; it is a rustic family home in a historic village. The village itself is very small and very quiet, situated 20 minutes from Voss, and just one hour by train or car from Bergen.

Die Unterkunft
Rongahuset was built in 1923 by the village storekeeper, and the old grocery store on the corner is now a cosy café, open mainly in the summer. We moved into the house in 2017, and it is slowly coming together and becoming our home. Guests are welcome to make themselves at home in the living rooms and kitchen. The guest rooms have comfortable beds and basic necessities, like a small desk, but not much else. There is Wi-fi throughout the house, but a TV in the living room only. Breakfast, bedding and towels are included. If you need anything else, please ask!

The family includes five children aged 7-16, and usually one or more workaway volunteers who help out and take part in family life. My aim is to live a well-balanced life, and to create a pleasant home and a beautiful and productive garden. The household is mainly vegetarian plus fish, though we sometimes serve meat. We have a piano, guitars, and other instruments, and a lot of books.

Please note that this is a shared room for up to 4 people in a bnb; there may be as many as 10-12 guests staying in the house, particularly in the summer. This listing has received a few bad reviews, whilst the other listings for this room have excellent reviews. Please feel free to leave any rating for the subcategories, plus informative remarks about good and bad aspects of your stay - but please also note that the only acceptable general rating in the Airbnb system is 5*, and hosts are penalised for every general rating below 5*.

Zugang für Gäste
If you need more beds than you see here, please message me to inquire. The dorm room has 6 single bunk beds, some on this site and some on other booking platforms. The dorm is usually not full, so I can easily adjust reservations, but I try never to let more than four people sleep in the room, as it is just too much for the room and the facilities. At times, my volunteers may be using one or two of the beds, meaning that fewer beds are available for guests.

Guests share most of the facilities of the home with the family, such as kitchen and living rooms. There is a small guest kitchen downstairs which usually has a microwave and a refrigerator; however, I prefer to let guests use the family kitchen, so that the dorm kitchen is used only for simple snacks.

It is possible to wash and dry clothes. For laundry, I appreciate a small extra payment of 25-50 kr, depending on the amount of washing.

Breakfast is included with your reservation. Dinner can usually also be provided, at an additional cost of 120 kr per person.

Same-week or even same-day requests are fine.

Weitere wichtige Hinweise
The house has a wonderful atmosphere, but at the same time, we are still working hard to get everything in order. At times, we have to improvise and change arrangements. We enjoy making guests comfortable, and will always do our best to give you an enjoyable stay! Five kids aged 7-17 live here, and the two adult kids often visit. The household can be noisy, and this is not a good place for anyone who likes to sleep late in the mornings... The kids are active and have many interests, and I do my best to raise them to be well-mannered, thoughtful and independent - though they are challenging at times, and they behave very much like kids! They enjoy conversation, walks and games, and speak both English and Norwegian.

I am happy to welcome you to our family home in Evanger. Two years ago, we moved into a large house with a café on the ground floor, in the historic centre of the village; the café is open Sat-Sun during the school year and Wed-Sun during the holidays. As a large family with children aged 7-17, we have a lot of fun and good moments, but also some less good moments and an occasional touch of chaos. Usually, I have workaway volunteers staying, who help keep everything running smoothly, and add an international dimension to the household. My main aim as a host is to offer a taste of life in Norway, in a family setting: a comfortable bed, clean surroundings, a good breakfast, and pleasant conversation! We are an active and musical family. Most of us play one or more musical instruments, and we have a piano and other instruments at home. In my free time I play in a local symphony orchestra, and some of us play in the village brass band. We also have a lot of books and board games, so please feel free to look through the book shelves! Born in the UK and raised in Norway, I am fully bilingual in English and Norwegian. I also speak and read some French and Arabic. I am lucky to be the mother of seven great (also bilingual) kids aged 7-31, five of whom still live at home; my fourth child, who has Down syndrome, has especially enriched my life, teaching me much about the process and effort involved in learning life skills such as communication, self-care and independence. I work as a second language and special needs teacher at an adult education centre, and specialise in literacy and language acquisition. I am particularly interested in the challenges faced by learners with disabilities; at university, I also studied comparative religion and middle-eastern language and culture.

In general, we enjoy interacting with guests. We respect the privacy of guests, but are present much of the time apart from school/working hours. There are usually workawayers (volunteer helpers) staying, so the house is seldom empty.

During the summer holidays, June - August, we have a lot of free time and our schedule is more flexible - or less predictable, depending on your point of view! During the school year, we have music lessons and activities some days, and the rest of the week is quieter. You are always welcome to stay, but it will vary how much time we have to interact with you!
