Coming Home In The Heart Of Berlin is an old world apartment of 120 square metres; spacious rooms, high ceilings and large windows in an uncomplicated atmosphere of homeliness, in the heart of Berlin´s cultural and commercial center. The apartment is located between Kreuzberg and Mitte - an area well known for it's diversity of cultures and lifestyles!
The Guest Room is in the inspiring space of a photo gallery, approximately 13 square meters in size, with a double mattress on a wooden floor, and an enchanting view of the Hebbel Theatre, next door. The intention of this style is for the guest to experience the simple sophistication of a bohemian world or indeed, to simply enjoy!
In the event where a guest has a special request, it is necessary that the intention is communicated verbally or in written form,
before permission is granted by the host, only.
I was born in Limerick, Ireland and grew up on the south-west Atlantic coast, in a closely knit community, steeped in history, tradition and story telling. Playing hide and seek, in a landscape of rich green, dotted with monastic settlements, Celtic ruins and Norman castles - where farm animals chewed with timeless ease, under a sky of white, blue and rumbling black - so generously curved to meet the ground. The salt of the sea was on our tongues, the waves rushed to catch us on the shores, where we swam fully clothed, for fear of freezing to death!!!
During my early teens, I became intrigued by the German school of Expressionist painting, The Bauhaus movement, the cabaret of Marlene Dietrich, the films of Fritz Lang, the theater of Bertolt Brecht and the music of Franz Schubert.
After completing my secondary school education in 1981, I soon travelled to London, France, Holland and finally arrived in Berlin in the summer of 1982, where I was spellbound by a flourishing arts scene, an energetic revival of the burlesque and the vivid excitement of vibrant conversations and demonstrations, echoing words of desire and praise, for a better world, to be.
I later returned to Dublin to complete my studies in fashion and have ever since travelled extensively, with my work as a costume designer.
Throughout the many movements in my life, Berlin has remained a very important base, where I have my apartment, Coming Home In The Heart Of Berlin since 1986. I find it difficult to imagine a world without this great city, so powerfully resilient, rich in human history and so uniquely tolerant! Though contrasting in the extreme, Ireland is equally important, in my life, where I also spend a lot of time!
Subsequently, my emotional and professional survival is a series of journeys from one place to to the next, which has led very naturally, to the pleasure of sharing my home in Berlin, with guests from around the world!
My sincere thank's to Airbnb for making this possible, my sincere thank's also to my guests, for choosing to spend precious time in my home and hope that it will be a source of joyful inspiration and homeliness throughout their stay and beyond!
Finally, I wish all travellers, hosts and The Airbnb Team a safe journey to their destinations in good health, happiness and prosperity
