Newly Renovated!!
Overlooking river Ganges at the historic Tulsi Ghat, in the vicinity of the famed Lolark Kund (Bhadaini), this home promises the guest the quintessential Varanasi experience.

Der Wohnraum

You will find the description of Lolark Kund in the book 'Banaras: City of Lights' by Diana L. Eck, Professor of Religious Studies, Harvard University, as well as in the Vedic scriptures. It is a historic step well used for religious ceremonies and bathing rites. The house faces this Kund and is next to the Ganges river, with a large terrace area allowing a view of the sunrise. It is surrounded by ancient temples of Mahishasurmardini, Lords Shiva and Ganesha that attract many devotees throughout the year.

Danke Ramji, danke Surya!

This property was amazing! Stayed here for a few days and could not have picked a better place. The caretaker Ramaji was very kind to us, breakfast, helpful tips and also made us feel a lot safer in the house. The location is prime, you can walk around everywhere from this point. Food and beverages are easily accessible. The room was ready for our arrival, ac on blast, water, towels, toilet paper, etc. Also an amazing view at 5am in the morning, you'll be stunned! It wasn't a huge issue for us, but the property did not have working wifi for our stay, so if that's something you need for sure, ask the host Suryanandini ahead of time.

Great place. Wonderful location right on tulsi ghat. The caretaker, Ramji doesn't speak much English but he's very helpful. The room is very spacious and clean. The bathroom is clean. You have to leave the tap on for awhile to get hot water but it will come. The owner, Surya is very helpful and will go out of her way to answer any questions. Lovely place to land in Varanasi.

Thanks Nayomi! That is very useful feedback - will get the lock replaced and speak to Ramji about the lockout! So sorry about that!

Great location - easy access to the ghats, but far enough from the hustle. The next door temple with its early morning chimes did not bother us. The room was spacious. By having the place to ourselves using the bathroom across the hallway for the hot shower was not a problem. An Indian mobile phone is a must to contact Ramjee to open the front door and to speak to Surya for interpretation. Thanks for letting us stay here :)

Surya and Aziz were very helpful in the run up to our visit , sending comprehensive info. Location is near Assi Ghat, relatively quiet except for 6 am puja daily next door which involves loud drumming etc! Good wake up call if you want to get to the Ghats early but not so welcome if you want a restful morning. Ramji was helpful in arranging a car and in preparing breakfast for us. Simple flat - decor of flat could do with a refresh and wall obscuring view from windows a shame.

Thanks Mark for staying with us. The temple next door is an ancient one, which has an age-old tradition of the morning prayers. Most guests love this, as it adds to their authentic experience of the city, which really comes to life very early. We've been (luckily) very busy this season hosting guests, which hasn't allowed us time to refurb the place, but that is definitely something on the agenda over the summer.

Azeez was available by phone and had been in touch with me regularly prior to my arrival, so I knew to contact the prepaid taxi and have the driver call for directions. Even so, the taxi got lost, and the ride was interesting with several stops. The caretaker, Ramji was waiting at the road when we arrived which was good because the Ghats are narrow and a bit confusing for people like me who are unfamiliar with them. My room did not have a working shower, so I had to use one across the dining area, and when I arrived the main light in my room did not work. It was repaired after I called Azeez, Ramji had called the electrician that morning, but I arrived around 630 PM, and the light was not working. Ramji finally went and fetched an electrician around 8 PM and the light was fixed. Ramji fixed me a nice dinner and some tea, so I did not have to go out, for which I was grateful because my impression was, and remained that it was not a safe area to wander about in, especially as a foreigner with no idea where you are going. Azeez had suggested I get a phone, but as I had done fine for 5 weeks in India without a phone, and it would take up to 3 days for the phone to work, I declined getting one just for Varanasi, as I was staying 3 days at the end of my trip. As Azeez did not stay or come to the guest house, and Ramji, who spoke no English, was my only point of actual face to face contact, I had to call Azeez to translate to make sure Ramji and I were communicating. That being the case it went okay, there were some minor snags, but we managed.

Hi Bernie, I wish you had read the note we sent to you (like we do to all out guests) soon after you booked, well in advance of your arrival. It mentioned that our trusted caretaker Ramji attends to all our guests' needs, in our absence. We are constantly in touch with our guests through him to help ensure there are no language barriers and the guests are comfortable. The note also mentioned a host of activities and things every visitor to the city must do to make the most of his/her time there and the best way to go about organizing the same . I am glad though that you liked the dinner Ramji cooked and apologize for the brief inconvenience caused by the light not working when you arrived. It was checked up the same morning, and we stepped in to ensure it is fixed as soon as you brought it to our attention. I wish you had also highlighted in your review (other than the 'minor snags' in communication :-)), the constant voluntary assistance provided in planning your time better within the city and the logistic arrangements we made at short notice to facilitate the same (from fetching cabs to taking you to recommended shops to organizing boat rides). We do hope you had a wonderful rest of the trip in India and would be happy host you again, should you travel to Varanasi again. Warmly, Surya and Azeez
