Both my wife & I attended Proctor High School along with the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Upon graduation, we relocated to NYC in order to explore “Big City” living to the max! After 6 years and the birth of the first of our three daughters, we decided it was time to relocate back to the Midwest….settling in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where we lived for 20-years and raised our children. In 2006, we moved back to Duluth and built the “Woodsy Lodging” home on our 40-acres up the North Shore. While living here, we were able to start taking steps to pursue our lifelong dream…. to personally build our own log-style retirement home!
Subsequently, after waiting about 5-years for the logs to dry (from trees that we had cut from our property earlier,) we could now begin construction. Then, in late 2012 and after successfully “testing our marriage” on multiple occasions during the construction process, we were finally able to move into our new home… which is about 500’ up the driveway. Hence, we are now able to enjoy, on a daily basis, the property that we have been enjoying since high school!
At this point, therefore, the “Woodsy Lodging” home had only been used as a guest house to handle the overflow from large family gatherings. In other words, it had been vacant most of the year. In our opinion, this was a shame, since others could be enjoying the comforts and unique opportunities of a country-living life style…while simultaneously taking full advantage of the Duluth area and all that it has to offer! Hence, in 2014 we decided to open up our guest house to vacationers!
