Der Wohnraum

tinycabin is a lovingly-restored 30-year old Alaskan trapper's cabin, full of rustic charm and comfort. It's a small (11'x16') one-room log cabin, so come with someone you love! You'll be rewarded with an authentic "AK bush-town" experience in the middle of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. tinycabin is perfect for couples, but a third person can be easily accommodated also. There is a double bed, plus a futon mattress that can be set up on the floor. A lovely covered porch looks out on a private grassy area (additional guests could camp), wildflowers and berry bushes, and mountain scenery. The cabin has both a woodstove and propane heater, propane and electric lights, and electrical outlets where guests can charge electronics. Wifi can be purchased by the day from the local hotspot. The kitchenette is stocked with supplies for guests to cook simply, plus "semi-running water" which is a cold water cistern and basin. Towels and linens are provided, as well as filtered drinking water.

Zugang für Gäste

Guests have a private, clean, new outhouse for their use and are welcome to use our hot water, outdoor shower (it's rustic, but refreshing!) under the deck of our next-door home. The town of McCarthy is 2 blocks away--a quick walk to the local general store, restaurants/bar, shuttle-to-Kennecott bus stop, flightseeing operators, guide services and historical museum. The end of the Kennicott Glacier is a 20 minute walk away and the Kennecott Mines National Historic Landmark is 4 miles away; you can walk, bike or take a shuttle. Guests can only drive to the Kennicott River, then need to walk across a footbridge and either walk or shuttle-bus the 1/2 mile into McCarthy town. If you fly into McCarthy from Chitina or Anchorage with Wrangell Mountain Air, they will shuttle you to downtown McCarthy, then it's a 2-block walk to tinycabin. I may be available to pick some guests up at the footbridge, depending on my work schedule; this may be arranged on a case-by-case basis.

Interaktion mit Gästen

We live right next door to tinycabin, so are available to answer questions and help guests, but we respect our guests' privacy and space. I spend a lot of time in the yard and garden during the summer, so I am often working near tinycabin. Our friends visit and we work on various projects, so it's not a place of complete solitude. For those that want an entire property to themselves, this may not be the place. We live in an Alaskan bush community, with all its daily activities, and we welcome anyone who wants to experience a bit of that routine. We love to answer questions about the area if guests want information. We provide a binder of information about the area in the cabin.

Tamara's Tiny Cabin is an awesome place to stay in McCarthy. This was my 4th trip to McCarthy and my first time staying in the Tiny Cabin. The cabin is cozy, comfortable, well maintained, very clean and outfitted with everything you need for a most enjoyable and comfortable stay. The porch and private front yard are great for hanging out and relaxing and provided a great place for me to clean, dry and organize my packrafting and other gear after a day of adventure. The cabin is quiet and private but is only a 1-2 minute walk to the restaurants and general store in McCarthy. Tamara is a fabulous host and made my 5 night stay at the cabin most enjoyable. Definitely my first choice for lodging on my future trips to McCarthy.

Such a great place to stay! The host is amazing and the tiny cabin is a great way to stay in Mccarthy. The morning muffins are a special treat. The cabin is close to everything with a private outhouse and has everything you need for an Alaskan getaway.

Tamara and her tinycabin were wonderful in every way. The attention to every detail in the cabin and the grounds showed how much she cares about her home. She and her husband were around but not imposing at all. We were glad we fot the chance to learn some about their lifestyle and the logistics associated with living at the end of the road. They went above and beyond to ensure things went well. I would stay here again and would recommend it to singles or couples who want to experience McCarthy.

I spent 4 days in town and am convinced that this is the best place to stay in McCarthy/Kennicott. Tamara was a wonderful host and picked me up at the airport and showed me the lay of the land. I was thrilled that everything was so close. You can walk to restaurants, the bar, and the small grocery store. You can even walk into Kennicott if you're legs are fresh, if not the bus shuttle is a 2 minute walk from the cabin. The cabin itself was clean, spacious, quiet, and stocked with anything you need to do your own cooking. The little touches like the outdoor shower and fresh breakfast in the morning really made the cabin feel like home. I'm already thinking about when I can make the trip back!

That was a great really Zen experience staying in this place The view from the porch and yard is tranquil and beautiful The cabin is a good size It's very clean and well organized The bed is very good Tamara is a great host The location is very close to the shuttle bus and to the grocery store If you decided to go to McCarthy, then it's a right place to stay there We loved everything there including clean private outhouse. Strongly recommend to all adventures lovers. Parking at the bridge was easy The cart and walking the bridge fun and then Tamara met us on the other side. On our three week trip to Alaska, staying in Tamara place was one of the highlights.

I love being outside, gardening, birdwatching, cooking, berry picking, skiing, dancing, sewing, snorkeling, hiking and wildflowers. My husband and I travel, budget-style, each winter, to escape the dark and cold of December and January. But the rest of the year, we live in the funky little town of McCarthy, in bush Alaska. We have restored a 30-year-old trapper cabin that guests can now enjoy, and we're eager to share our little piece of Alaska, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, and McCarthy with visitors.
