Westlake is SUPER convenient to downtown Seattle, South Lake Union (Amazon and also some museums, boat tours, etc) the amazing Fremont arts district, and classic lovely Queen Anne Hill. There are many nearby recommendations in the binder provided onboard or feel free to call.

The Lake Union Ship Canal is a freshwater lake and waterway in Seattle, that connect to Puget Sound, Lake Union and Lake Washington. On the east, the Montlake cut connects Union Bay in Lake Washington with Portage Bay. Portage Bay connects to Lake Union, which covers approximately 581 acres and has an average depth of 32 feet. Heading west, the narrow Fremont Cut connects with Salmon Bay and the Hiram Chittenden (Ballard) Locks. The Locks allow boats to pass between the freshwater of the Ship Canal and the saltwater of Puget Sound and regulate the water level in the Lake Union/Ship Canal/Lake Washington system.

Lake Union and the Ship Canal are important areas for shipping, recreational navigation, industrial and commercial businesses, recreation, and fish and wildlife habitat. The Ship Canal and Lake Union are particularly important as migration corridors for all salmon entering and leaving the greater Lake Washington watershed.

Across the waterway from its big brother (the Burke-Gilman Trail), the Ship Canal Trail runs along the southern edge of the Lake Washington Ship Canal near Seattle Pacific University. The trail links the Burke-Gilman Trail via the Fremont Avenue Bridge with the bike path on W. Emerson Place near Fishermen's Terminal.

The completion of the trail to its current western terminus makes it possible for intrepid bikers and runners to travel from Redmond to downtown Seattle almost entirely on non-motorized paths. The Ship Canal Trail is popular with dog-walkers and joggers.

Seaplanes scoot in and out of Lake Union, on their way to and from the San Juan Islands and British Columbia. The lake shores are lined with houseboats, and commercial and private docks for owners and renters of tugs, yachts, tour ships, sailboats, kayaks and canoes. The Center for Wooden Boats is a nautical museum on the south shore, with historical boats, sailing events, classes and workshops.

Easy to get around on the Westlake Trail that also leads to the Burke Gilman & Ship Canal Trails. There is really no need for a car if you are comfortable using public transportation, biking or walking. Either walk, jog or bike along these city wide trails. Two bikes are provided for use during your stay. Better yet, hop on a kayak, also provided, and row to a restaurant around the lake.
Bus route 40 which picks up and drops off near houseboat. Uber, Lyft, zip cars, Car2Go, S. Lake Union Trolley are all convenient to this location.

Absolutely no pets are permitted in the listing. The fine for bringing any pet on the property with out prior written approval starts at $200. The marina management has ultimate authority to disapprove a pet from the marina and this home currently hasn't been approved with management to allow pets.

Follow all rules posted at the Marina. Please keep in mind that you are personal guest of "Amelia Matera". All of the neighbors are super friendly and welcoming of my guests. Please keep in mind that your behavior is reflective on me and my ability to continue to live at this marina so it is very important to me.
Please make sure you treat my charming home as your own and are a environmentally conscious lake resident. I will try to go over things with you personally but would also require that you read the home info provided in the binder on board. It is important that all products being used in the shower and sink are lake friendly. Also, please consider that the septic system is extremely sensitive and being used carefully by not putting ANYTHING down the head except a little TP and being sure not to overflow the tank. Think boat living!

Amelia's houseboat was super swag! The space is well cared for, comfortable, and surprisingly roomy for a small studio boat. I never met Amelia, but she was delighted to assist when I contacted her. Also, she provided a comprehensive guide of houseboat and the area. House living is delightfully different on a boat in all sorts of ways! Be prepared for cold winters and hot summers, smokey cooking, and pump toilets. Amelia provides plenty of amenities that address everything. Either way, prepare for an adventure!

The houseboat is cute and cozy with all the essentials. The marina has plenty of parking and the neighbors were really friendly. I really enjoyed the location right off the ship canal bike trail, and walking distance to Ballard and Fremont. I'm sure it'd be awesome to stay here in the summer when it'd be better to hang out outside and make use of the kayaks.

It was fun staying on the House Barge, I just wish I had chosen a better time during the year so that I could have taken advantage of using the Kayaks. The place was cozy and well furnished. Big plus for me was that I never struggled to find parking in the marina's lot even though spots are unassigned. The location was great as it allowed me to explore Ballard, Fremont, and Wallingford neighborhoods. Amelia was quick to respond to needs and questions that came up during my stay.

My husband and I stayed with our dog for about 3 weeks while we waited for our apartment to be ready. The houseboat is very cozy and well-outfitted with everything you could need for basic cooking and living. Not having Internet access was annoying sometimes, but overall it wasn't a big problem. The marina is an easy walk to Ballard or Fremont, and easily accessible by bus. We enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend it to others.

We really enjoyed our stay. The house barge was clean, comfortable, and charming! The people we met at the marina were also very friendly. Amelia was helpful, sweet, and available to answer all of our questions. She even left us a nice card when we got there. Staying on the house barge added something special to our stay in Seattle. We highly recommend staying here.
