Great cozy cabin with room plenty of room for fun and comfort. Great for a single couple (like us) or a family! Kitchen was fully stocked so you can make full meals, which is super fun (and helps you save money!). Highly recommend this place and Ginny the manager is great!

This was our first Airbnb experience and Ginny was a terrific host. Ginny was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Our stay in Ginny's cozy and quiet cabin was just right for our family of four. Our young kids loved having big beds in their own room just across the short hallway from our room. As Ginny described in her detailed instructions, we walked out the back door and started a leisurely hike. It was a lovely hike surrounded by tall beautiful trees that dropped huge pine cones, which of course, my kids loved inspecting. If we return to Big Bear we'd definitely consider renting Ginny's cabin again as the location was ideal to downtown, hiking trails, activities and, for the winter, a ski slope.

Hi Robin, I am so glad your first airbnb experience was really good! I love when big and little kids have fun in the immediate nature that abounds surrounding "Bear Pause" Cabin! would love to answer your questions and offer my experience about skiing and the kids. Perhaps we can go back to our messaging within airbnb? Allbest, Ginny

It was great visiting your cabin in Big bear. We had a fantastic time during our stay. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. Only trouble is it has only one bathroom. Furniture is in great condition and well maintained. Clear communication was helpful as there is very little phone signal or wifi. All said, it was a great stay and happy to recommend others to try out this place if you are group of 4 or less.

Hi Shashank, Glad you enjoyed your stay. Thanks for letting me know that you could find a signal for AT&T in the back yard. We have no trouble with verizon, but AT&T can be a bit spotty. Best, Ginny

Ginny was a great host and communicated well throughout our stay. The home was clean and in a good location next to Big Bear Resort. There was basically no cell reception (which could be a plus for some groups, but just be aware). Only negative would be the amount of cleaning requested while also being charged an $80 cleaning fee. Per directions, we spent more than an hour removing all of the ash from the fireplace, washing and replacing all the dishes, unplugging all of the lights, and needing to drive our bag of trash (or be penalized $25/bag) off-site. We also needed to bring our own sheets and towels. All fine, it just left us curious about the $80 fee after we left the place basically spotless. Overall though, a good/comfortable stay and good value.

Hi Ryan, Glad you enjoyed your stay -- we always enjoy hosting other hosts. I feel compelled to address several of your comments, which may or may not be perceived as negative. After almost four years of hosting with Airbnb, we have learned some things the hard way, for example the request for removal of the trash. Believe it or not, there are some guests who will not drive one extra block on their way out of town to dispose of the trash. They have left it on the deck or in the cabin, and sometimes, when we do not have back-to-back reservations the cleaning crew may not come around for a couple of days after check-out. Trash outside attracts coyotes and bears and trash left inside or out is a health hazard. With publicizing the extra fee, we have not had a problem. We have stayed in airbnb's all over the world, and have always been expected to clean our own dishes and put them away. We would never consider leaving dishes for the cleaning team. Finally, the reason our cabin is such a great value, as you state in your review, is because we don't have to pay the cleaning crew exorbitant cleaning fees per day for extras, like throwing trash at the city disposal (since we don't have trash pick-up in BBL); and, laundering sheets and towels for a couple of hours (no W/D in cabin). Again, glad you found the place clean, comfortable, and a great value. Best, Ginny

Thanks for taking the time to read a bit about me and what has inspired me/us to share Bear Pause with you! "Keep Having Firsts," is my life's motto, which I developed as a young college student and Outward Bound Instructor, first for North Carolina OB, and later Colorado OB. I started traveling the world at a young age, and lived in Moscow, Russia, during the height of communism, giving me a broader perspective on diverse cultures, and the true reality of freedom. By age 26, I had traveled to 49 of 50 states; and, by 1991, finally made it to the 50th, by cycling the entire Alaska Coast Highway. My passion for cycling grew exponentially, and while living in San Diego, I founded, promoted, produced and rode in the first-ever, all women's bike ride across the U.S. for breast cancer. We did this history-making event three times! At the same time, I ran my own company, Women In Motion, and led adventure-based and R&R trips for women, domestically and internationally, to include white water/ocean paddling, backpacking, rock climbing, snow sports, and eco- tourism, many of which were based in BBL. Prior to these entrepreneurial endeavors, I worked for Anheuser-Busch in sports marketing with special promotions, advertising, special events, and public relations while I served as national director of the IronKids programs for 10 years. As a goal-oriented person, and throughout this combo of vocation-avocation stuff, I challenged myself personally through Ultra-distance events, too. I combined work and pleasure while completing -- several times, the IronMan Triathlon in Kona, Hawaii, the Minnesota Border to Border Triathlon, the Mt. Taylor Winter Quadrathlon, and many more. In fact, I served on the USA Triathlon Board of Directors and as the U.S. Triathlon Junior Olympic Team Manager for 10 years; and, was a key player in the sport achieving full-fledged Olympic status, in 2000, in Australia. A few stints in marketing and communications for the United States Olympic Committee; as well as being a high school and community college teacher and professor and Dean at several universities, highlight a career where I am so fortunate to combine my personal and professional passions. It doesn't get any better than this!

"Keep Having Firsts" has now translated to my family. My wife, Karen, and I take at least one 'bucket-list" trip each year with our daughter (now 11). We recently completed a RTW trip (Around the World) - one of those life goals we did not want to put off. We logged approx 50,000 miles, 25 countries, over 40 cities; and, spent five months of getting down with the locals and various cultures, all over the globe. Volunteerism was an imperative part of our journey as well. Many more "firsts" to come !!! :)

"Bear Pause" Chalet was home base for many of our adventures (including our Colorado wonder-dog golden retriever, Powder); and, I am delighted to share it with our airbnb guests!

Yours in the Outdoors,
Ginny, Karen and Family
