Rignac is the antidote to my life as a Madison Avenue art director in New York. I only summered here at first but now live here "en plein année". I love the changing seasons, the bright starry skies, the nightingales soulful melodies in spring...
The property is a rustic and charming small stone cottage in the working farm village of Rignac, south west France. There is a bedroom upstairs with two traditional double beds and a living room / kitchen downstairs with a large open fireplace. The cottage has WIFI and central heating. Wood is included in the price, but central heating is extra.
Rentals are 525 euros a week except July and August when the rate is 600 euros a week. The changeover day is Saturday. I will consider shorter stays off season - a minimum of four nights. I can also negotiate longer term "sabbatical" rentals from November through March, at a reduced rate of 600 euros a month plus heating and utilities.
Zugang für Gäste
Rignac is five kilometers from Gramat which has a post office, pharmacies, doctors, restaurants, butchers, bakeries, an excellent patisserie and fulfils most shopping needs. We are seven kilometres from Rocamadour, the second most important site in France after Mont Saint Michel.
A car is not essential as the Gramat train station is 7 kilometres from Rignac, but is very useful as there are many castles, bastides , and daily markets in the area, as well as recreational activities like hiking, canoeing on the Dordogne,
hot air ballooning and even spelunking. I have bicycles which guests are welcome to borrow.

It is not a good place for people who suffer allergies from farm and domestic animals, especially in June and July when the hay is being harvested.
Please note that the monthly fee does not include utilities: electricity, water, central heating and firewood. Utilities can amount to anything between about 150 to 300 euros a month, depending on how much is spent on central heating (gas) and/or wood.
Aside from linen and towels, the cottage should be left in the same condition in which it is found. Otherwise please request cleaning at time of booking for an extra fee of 35 euros.
From November through March, the cottage is available at a special long term rate of 600 euros a month plus utilities which include electricity, water, gas for central heating and wood. A deposit of 500 euros is requested at time of arrival for the utilities, which can cost anywhere between 175 euros and 250 euros a month, depending on how cold the weather is and how warm you need to keep the cottage in winter.
I am an artist and children's book illustrator who gave up a busy life as an Manhattan art director to focus on the finer things in life. Twice a year, I offer two week watercolour workshops in my studio, usually in July and September.
