I have thoroughly enjoyed Airbnb’ing my place out over the past year. However it is sad for me to have experienced (for the first time ever) a guest with such a bad attitude and an eagerness to complain. I am very flexible and accommodating with guests, and have to date experienced wonderful people with pleasant demeanours. I have always gone the extra mile to make guest feel at home with the utmost comfort, and thus far have only experienced positive feedback from them. It was most unfortunate that Berenice projected such distaste and thanklessness towards me.
I had let her know that my check out times are flexible to a point, yet upon letting me know on the last day that she had wanted to check out after 6pm (on the checkout day), I could not accommodate her as I had another guest arriving and had to get the bedroom ready.
She then insisted that this was unfair towards her as she had planned a late evening meeting! Had I not had another guest arriving I would gladly have accommodated her, but to expect a checkout so late in the evening is quite frankly unreasonable. All accommodations, Bed and breakfast etc checkout before lunch time is mandatory, I however can make allowances if it is arranged beforehand and not on the last day at such an unreasonable hour.
However she proceeded to make things untenable for me. Furthermore to my HORROR I discovered from the other guest staying at my home (a foreigner yet aware of the water crises) that Berenice took exceptionally long showers! Cape Town is experiencing the worst water crises in history, and Berenice who is also a resident of Cape Town found it acceptable to abuse the water situation at my home. This type of behaviour is inexcusable.
