It's a large room, suitable for 1 or 2 people. The house was built in 1905 and this room has a high, decorated ceiling and a large bay window.

Parking is never a problem on the street outside. Parking restrictions are now in force from 9am till 10am and 2pm till 3pm, Monday to Saturday, but we can provide parking permits for you free of charge.

We are very friendly and love meeting all our guests, but will keep a low profile if the guest prefers privacy. I work from home usually, so I'm around most of the time to see to guests.

As a city break, Sunderland is a good option. We've got lovely beaches and plenty to see and do, including a 7th century church, ( St.Peter's), Penshaw Monument and the National Glass Centre. We are also very close to the Chester Road campus of Sunderland Uni and about 20 minute's walk from Saint Peter's Campus. It's actually very convenient for Newcastle Airport too. The 'University' Metro station is only 5 minutes walk away. Public transport is really good, so travel to Newcastle or Durham is easy. However, late at night there is only the option of taxis. A taxi from Newcastle would cost around £30.
Most people I meet through Airbnb have either a good sense of direction or maps on their phone! However, anyone unsure about directions, please just ask and I will meet you and help out in any way I can.
Also, I make sure that everything for guests is comfortable and clean. The beds all have memory foam. I aim for good standards and a homely feel.
It's a big house so it's easy to get privacy. There are 7 rooms, a large kitchen and 3 bathrooms in total and everything is kept really clean and nice.
Quiet after 11 pm.
Close windows when you go out.
Use the toaster and microwave to make breakfast. Sorry, we don't allow use of the hob and oven.

I live in a large house here in Sunderland, with my 21-year-old son Jason. My partner, Michael is here quite a lot too. I love doing Airbnb and at the moment, I have 2 rooms available, so we can welcome family groups as well.
I really like living in Sunderland. I pop into town most days, for some exercise and fresh air first thing. There are really nice parks round here too. I love going to the beach, especially at dawn or at dusk. The reason you feel better at the seaside is that there are lots of negative ions in the air, making you feel clear-headed and more energetic! I like the fact that most places you would want to visit in Sunderland are within easy walking distance and public transport is simple and easy for trips to Newcastle or Durham.
Some people don't realise what a nice place Sunderland is. When I have guests from other countries, they occasionally mention this - and they are surprised when I tell them that people sometimes have a negative view! It's so nice to get positive feedback from my guests. Also, I thought when I started Airbnb that I would be very busy in July for the Airshow, but actually, that wasn't the case! Sunderland Airshow is great fun and quite spectacular. The coastal venue is a perfect backdrop for all the planes and gives a great panoramic view. There is also a band and a night time display on the opening night.
If I sound like a bit of a home bird, well, you're dead right! I'm not big on travelling myself, but love to listen to guests talking about their travels. Mostly I like to find out about different cultures and attitudes. I suppose, for me, Airbnb is like travelling without leaving home:) I think people enjoy hot weather and pools, (I don't!), but I get to know my international guests maybe better than if I was in their country. My guests seem to enjoy being here, which is heartwarming. I just aim to be one of the many "canny" people in Sunderland, friendly and helpful and happy to chat and have a laugh!
