A private cottage on 3 acres overlooking an Adirondack river with mountain views. We are located halfway between Keene Valley's High Peak District and Schroon Lake -- just off Route 9 between exits 29 and 30 of the Northway / Route 87.

Der Wohnraum

Our North Hudson Retreat is a four season camp on the southern edge of the Adirondack High Peaks Region. The house is on 3 acres overlooking the Schroon River from a high bank. As the pictures show, a wild river and Nippletop Mountain can be seen from the backyard.

Our camp was originally built in 1952 and has been renovated and modernized. It has great views, an old style feel and the snug comfort of tight construction. We supply fresh sheets, bedding and towels, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer. Pets are allowed, but we add an upcharge equivalent to another person staying ($20.00). So if you do plan to bring a pet, please enter an additional guest in the reservation.

Lots of windows make it bright and the view to the south is breathtaking. Accommodations include a full kitchen and bathroom, a queen size bed in the upstairs sleeping area, a double bed downstairs, a futon couch in the living room and another three mattresses tucked away for dormitory style sleeping if you have a large group. The place is small enough to be comfortable for two and big enough for six if they're friends. The living room has a vaulted ceiling, Jotul wood stove, and big windows on three sides. There is a DVD player and a sound system  that can be hooked into an iPod or smart-phone.

We are located on a town road (Pepper Hollow Road) a few hundred feet in from route 9. Cell phone reception is excellent for Verizon and T-Mobile. The driveway is 200 feet long and flat and can handle multiple cars.

From our place it's a 15 minute drive North to the Town of Keene and trail heads to the high peaks. Or drive south 15 minutes to Schroon and Paradox Lake. The village of Schroon Lake has a Grand Union supermarket, liquor store, bars, restaurants, etc.

My personal go-to spot for swimming is Chapel Pond, which is 11.8 miles to the north heading toward the town of Keene, but swimming is also available right on the property if you don't mind a steep climb down to the river.

If you like to swim, hike, , ski, fish, climb or just be outside, our place is close to everything Adirondack. The Dix wilderness trail-head is less than a mile away on route 9. And when you've had enough outdoors or just want some quiet time you can enjoy a crackling wood fire and the simple pleasure of a private Adirondack retreat. The well is deep and the water tastes great. The air is pine scented and a pleasure to inhale. If you step outside on a clear night, you can see the milky way.

Entire House and grounds are available for guests, including kitchen, towels, wood stove, outdoor fire pit and lawn chairs. Storage shed/shop is not for guests.

We do not live on-site. I like to meet guests when I can, but quite often, just leave a key.

I love the seclusion of our place, private and quiet, but easy access, and the towns of Keene Valley and Schroon Lake nearby.

A great place to unwind, cook a good meal, open a bottle of wine and feel the spaciousness of the Adirondacks.

The place is small enough to be cozy and comfortable for two people, but big enough for more, up to eight people if you don't mind dormitory style sleeping on an air matress

A car is necessary. This is a rural and private retreat.

We have an outdoor fire-pit which guests can use, but open fires are technically not allowed in the Adirondacks-- so use the metal fire-pit with screen cover and rake back the pine needles before starting a fire.

Dont miss this! Comfortable, warm cabin with a beautiful view at a reasonable price. The pictures dont do the view any justice!

What a beautiful scene. The house is cute and cozy, but the best part was the view! Schroon river with beautiful adirondack mountains in the background! Such a wonderful weekend to spend with friends and our pups! Robert was an awesome host with excellent communication as needed! 10/10 would stay again in the future!

The photos do not do it justice! The view from the backyard (and also inside the cabin) is just spectacular. Robert's cabin is situated on a beautiful slice of the Adirondacks, overlooking the Schroon river and surrounding mountains. It is the perfect spot to unwind and relax. We were lucky to arrive during some cooler fall temperatures, so the wood stove was fired up and made the space feel and smell amazing at night (we didn't have a lot of experience with using a wood stove, but Robert's handy guide was very helpful and we had it going in no time at all). The cabin had everything we needed for a few days stay. Everything is kept very clean and tidy. I would recommend swinging by the Schroon Lake Tops grocery store to stock up on items before you arrive, since the drive from the cabin to town takes about 20 minutes and there isn't much else around. We didn't have to contact Robert for anything since he had everything set up just right, instructions were clear and the cabin was super easy to find!

You won't regret your stay here. I cannot wait to come back. The view doesn't get any justice in the pictures! Sunsets are breathtaking. Quiet space, no neighbors. Very relaxing - the perfect get away for anyone needing to relax!

This cabin had a great back yard with nice views, so it was a great getaway from the city with stargazing and grilling. The place was comfortable with good friends, but didn't really have walls separating the rooms, if that matters to you. The location was great for hikers, in easy shooting distance of the Adirondack high peaks region. Would recommend!

I do a few big mountain adventures every summer, and usually camp before and after. I am starting to get to an age in which sleeping in a tent after a 13 mile hike does not sound as appealing as it used to. I thought about trying a stay at an AirBnb instead this time, and I'm really glad I did. This home was very accommodating to my friends and myself. The home itself is not luxurious, but that is reflected in the price. What was luxurious was the view from the back patio area!

I grew up on Staten Island but now live in Scotia, NY (near Schenectady). My day job used to be producing educational audio and video programs for the New York State Bar Association. Left there recently and I'm now employed doing home renovation (Scotia Renovations) and making simple furniture.

My intention in building our Adirondack camp was to create a place that was comfortable but not the same as being home. A camp is different, it should be a different experience. The floor plan is purposefully open so it feels compact and big at the same time. There's lots of headroom and the eye can travel.

My wife Joan and I have been happily married for 16 years and counting. We're both working people who made our own way in the world. We're are glad we finally got a little smarter and found each other. We have three kids who are mostly grown. If I could go anywhere, it would be an extended trip to France and Ireland.

It takes effort to do something meaningful, but life is good.
