Birds and Blossoms Retreat is located in the beautiful riverfront Pukihae Gardens in downtown Hilo. This Retreat is Non-Profit and a working project. It was once a Royal Hawaiian Land and we would love to share the story with you upon your visit.

We are in walking distance to the bay front, grocery stores, shops, restaurants, farmers market, bus station, library, post office, museums, etc. There is limited parking at the Retreat; you can park outside on the road or just across the street.

Die Unterkunft
We offer a variety of options you can stay in. A large Gazebo Structure with screens and curtains that includes a queen size air mattress bed with fluffy pillows. Some are located by the river or on top of the hillside. Or you can stay on a deck where you pitch your own tent by the river next to the fish pond. We also have two small tents you use to pitch if you do not have one.

Most of our campers come with their own tents, bedding and supplies. We have beautiful site within the gardens for you to enjoy.

There is a large swimming hole at the property; so jump in any time of the day. We have a covered sitting area that lights up at night, a teak table with a fire place that you can light and watch it flicker by the river at night. Many people enjoy relaxing in our hammocks by the river, the sound will make you fall asleep and drift away the day.

we have a covered outdoor kitchen area that includes a microwave, coffee maker,, toaster and to the side a gas burning stove. By the river you can set a charcoal BBQ.

The shower is a covered outdoor space with cold water which is cool and refreshing. We are working on getting hot water in the future.

We provide a very well maintained Porta Potty for our campers.

Weitere wichtige Hinweise
Rat lungworm is a serious concern in Hawaii. Keep yourself and others safe by keeping food in sealed containers and always cleaning up after yourself.

Lage

Hilo, Hawaii, Vereinigte Staaten

We are less than a block from Clem Akina park. The neighborhood is a mixture of fancy homes and simple apartments. The best part about it is that it is so convenient to downtown Hilo.

My name is Johanna I am 64 years old but young at heart and building this Retreat is my love and passion. I grew up in Hawaii, worked for the Airlines and had to quit because of medical. I am legally blind; went back to school at Paul Smith, Culinary Institute of America and Cornell University in Hotel Management. This Retreat is nonprofit and is being built to cater to elderly and disabled travelers and open to the general public. Graduate students in the Hospitality Field will be doing internships to help run the Retreat once it is completed for school credit. I have traveled all around the world and plan on doing more. I enjoy meeting people and want to hear your stories too.
