Mumbi Cottage offers a wonderful stay experience within its cozy, charming, fully furnished walls. This 3 bedroomed beauty is located within the Great Rift Valley Lodge, surrounded by majestic views all round.

Der Wohnraum

Mumbi Cottage is a fully furnished double storey entity. It consists of 3 comfortable en-suite bed-rooms, a well lit kitchen and a spacious living-room that leads out the balcony which boasts a breath-taking view any time of day. This space comfortably fits 6 and is perfect for a getaway with friends and family alike.

Mumbi Cottage is located within the Great Rift Valley Lodge in Naivasha, Kenya. It is a one-and-a-half hour drive or a 30-minute flight from Nairobi (24 kilometres from Naivasha town and 12 off the Nairobi-Nakuru highway) and is approximately 7000 feet above sea level. The lodge is 46 km from the Nakuru Airport.

The Lodge is built on the Eburru, a mountain that the Maasai call Ol Donyo Opurru, meaning mountain of smoke.

From Mumbi Cottage you will enjoy spectacular views over the world’s largest valley, from Mount Longonot and the Aberdare Mountains in the east to the bird-thronged lakes of Naivasha and Elementaita.

Thanks to our proximity to Lake Naivasha, we enjoy some of the most diverse birdlife on the planet, with over 300 species on record, including pelicans and flamingos that fly from one lake to the other, Black-headed Orioles, Fischers Lovebirds Superb starling, African harrier hawks,Speckled Mouse birds and Egyptian geese. If you are a bird watcher, you will love this place!

There is one part of this cottage that is special and seems to bring all elements of nature together. The balcony! From here the views of lake Naivasha, Mt. Longonot, the Aberdares, the golf course greens just below, the birds in the trees, the zebras on the grass and not to mention a VIP, front row seat to witness daily the sunrise as dawn breaks.

Mumbi also boasts a Berbeque booth with one famous 'Kinyanjui choma jiko' - Barbecue Stove. So on your way to Mumbi, make a stop at Delamare along Naivasha Nakuru highway which is on your way and buy a goat leg to barbecue during your stay. Don't forget your barbecue sauce!

There is a roofed free and secure parking for two at Mumbi. Should your car alarm go off at night, don't panic, it is most likely a monkey or squirrel just curious about the make of your car.

Zugang für Gäste

Guests have access to the following lodge facilities:

The Lodge has its own airstrip allowing for connection with either Samburu, Masai Mara or Nairobi.

The course is described as among the most breathtaking in Africa. Every hole offers spectacular views over the shimmering expanse of the world’s largest valley with invariably stunning background – often watched by the herds of zebra and impala that naturally enjoy right of way on the course.

This course boasts beautifully contoured greens built to USGA specs with ‘tiffgreen’ Bermuda grass, while the fairways are planted with lush indigenous Kikuyu grass. All the holes are well bunkered, and there are five major water features spread throughout the course. The 654-yard, par-5 17th hole is celebrated as one of the longest – and trickiest to par – in the country.

There is playing golf, and then there is playing golf in the middle of the largest valley in the Wild of Africa where the horizons merge and the heavens meet earth. There is no experience comparable to golfing and being in this space!

At the Club House, you have access to the following:

Clubs for hire
275m driving range
Putting, chipping and bunker practice areas
Fully-stocked pro-shop
Changing rooms with showers and towels

There are two clay tennis courts near the club house.

If you enjoy cycling or jogging there are long winding carbro paved pathways that will take you on a tour of the entire Lodge area. And you do not have to worry if you can not bring your bicycle along because you can rent one on site with a helmet and all!

For relaxation, there is a swimming pool together with a kid’s pool at The Great Rift Lodge. The Adventurer’s Club and the Young Rangers Club provide activities for children.

The club house has two restaurants, which serve homemade meals from a set menu and al fresco continental lunches. Guests can enjoy refreshments in the luxurious lounge bar, which features a terrace with panoramic views of the Rift Valley.

There is Free Wi-Fi access at the club house area.

There is a fireplace at the lounge area in the club house that makes it warm and cozy for guests in the evenings and on chilly days.

There is free private parking available at the club house.

Activities available in area include boating and bird watching on Lake Naivasha. Nature walk excursions to Eburu mountains where you can see caves used by Mau Mau freedom fighters. Excursions to Hell's Gate, with its spectacular scenery of cliffs and gorges and hot water springs. I live in Nairobi, so I do not reside at Mumbi Cottage. Mumbi Cottage is my get away place, my 'Camp David' if you like, where i go to relax, recharge and get inspired by nature with new ideas.

So I am not present during my guests stay. And i think thats great so that they too can have space and time to soak in the beauty of the surrounding, relax, recharge and be filled with brilliant ideas that will change their world. That can only happen up there in the serenity of Mumbi Cottage, not in the noise of the city!

I am however willing and happy to help you arrange your transport to and from the Cabin if you like. Just let me know when and how you'd like it...on the road for those who love to see nature or a quick flight for those who want to get from busy to serene in no time.

Alice was amazing.....she communicated to us well before and during our stay at the cottage. We didn't get to meet her but she was really nice to us when we talked. We had a great time and we will definitely be back for another weekend.

We had a great stay at the cottage. It is a lovely location and was very nice to enjoy the swimming pool and play tennis. Alice was responsive and even left us a present! The only drawback were the mosquitos- definitely bring bug spray!

Alice was very accommodating in terms of responding to our booking request in less than 24 hours (we booked on Thursday afternoon for check-in on Friday). The grounds that the cottage is located on were beautiful and very secure. We enjoyed simple walks around the area, and we saw several zebras and monkeys just relaxing on the grounds themselves! The cottage is gorgeous on the outside, but much can be done in terms of interior decor. Sofas and chairs are a bit outdated, badly upholstered, and/or chipped and broken. Also, be sure to request the fireplace to be ready ahead of time if you'd like it because on a cold, rainy night, no help was available to help us have a cozy fire, which we were very much looking forward to. Finally, on the listing, many spa services are listed, which was one of the things that drew us to this cottage. However, it should be known that there isn't a proper spa so to speak, but one woman who offers all of these things and can only service one person at a time. Overall, a great place to stay if you want a very quiet getaway, but be sure to go the extra mile to request things you may want and not assume they're all immediately included!

A decent house in a very nice environment. However the pictures were far better than the real thing and we experienced some issues already upon our arrival. As the house is just next to one of the holes on the golf course, on of the windows of the terrace was shattered from a golf ball. The staff mentioned that they would fix it the next morning but it never happened. Also three out of four plastic chairs on the terrace were broken. The kitchen lacked some equipment and most importantly a coffee maker which we had to ask for for the second day of our stay. The information provided on the different available activities was not accurate enough even though we contacted the lodge manager the same day as we arrived. One of the restaurants closed down the second day due to lack of enough guests, the spa was not open etc etc. But luckely the weather was great, the wildlife on the grounds was visible, the pool area nice and clean and the service of the staff attentive. So all in all a fairly good stay.

Though she couldn't be at the cabin, she organized and prepared everything perfectly. She also provided us with contact information of care-taker of the accommodation so we could easily ask them what we needed.

Alice was great to work with and very helpful! The area is very beautiful with lots of birdlife. We saw zebras and antelopes on the fairways on several occasions and there is a peacock that lives up by the lodge. It was nice to be located within the Great Rift Valley Lodge because the amenities were there if we wanted them and it felt quite secure. The cabin is very spacious and was a great getaway for us.
