Enjoy a truly unique stay in an earth-sculpted cottage, on 46 gorgeous, wooded acres near the scenic Rogue River, just 5 miles off I-5. Complete with micro-kitchenette, super comfy bed, wood-stove, passive solar heated outdoor shower and private space to rest and rejuvenate. If a rustic retreat is what you're after, The Nest is it.
Looking for quite retreat space? The Nest is a cozy, comfortable place for up to 4 to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We welcome up to 2 pets to join you. The Nest is fenced for your four-footed friends, but we ask that you not leave them unattended. Whether you are finishing up that manuscript, writing songs, looking for the perfect getaway with a friend, or just watching the clouds float by, the nest is a perfect reprieve. Our cottage is a straw-bale, cob hybrid, built with materials sourced locally, and second-hand. The Nest was built as a writing & recording studio by a musician with inspiration and sound in mind, the shape, the soundproof cob, the guitar wood trim....making it an especially good place to commune with your muse. The density of the earthen walls ensure quiet, peaceful space inside the cottage, while the sounds of nature and country neighbors offer distant companionship. The woodstove will keep you warm on chilly nights. The views from the full bedroom loft are of surrounding forests and wildlife. Basic kitchen amenities are provided (small fridge, hot plate, toaster oven, small sink, kettle for coffee or tea, dishes, silverware, etc). Organic coffee and an assortment of tea is provided.
Enjoy the private outdoor shower while the sun is shining (it's passive solar, so if if the sun is shining on its coils, that water will be warm). We provide bio-degradable soap, shampoo and conditioner, clean towels, etc. The toilet is a composting outhouse, about 20 yards from the cottage, we provide recycling and kitchen compost containers, and the water is gravity fed from a natural spring, so rest assured, your footprint will be small and green.
Zugang für Gäste
The cottage is situated on land shared by a few households, and you are welcome to hike the land, but we ask that you respect the privacy of other residents. Although there is no internet at the cottage, and cell service is not always reliable (US Cellular and Verison do work here) you are welcome to use the wifi at the main house for low impact internet use (no videos or large file transfers) and of course to use the house phone if you need to. If you are staying for a week or more, you are welcome to use the laundry facilities in the main house.
Two, sometimes 4, sweet dogs also live on the land, so we ask that you not bring your pooches into the main house, as the other 4-leggeds may also be there. We have a small organic garden, and a flock of chickens that provide us with ample eggs that we love to share.

Be sure to do your shopping on the way, as the closest grocery stores are a 30 minute drive or more: Grants Pass to the South, and Canyonville to the north. The Nest is a bit of a hobbit house, with lower than normal ceilings, so if you are over 6' tall, you'll want to watch your head.
Although we love children, The Nest is not small-child-appropriate, sorry, but no kids under 7. Be aware that the earthen floors are somewhat delicate, and that there are various tall, steep and irregular steps
We welcome up to two dogs during your stay. The Cob Cottage is completely fenced, so you can relax, and the dogs can play, but we ask that you do not leave them unattended. Of course we ask that you clean up after your pooch.
Smoking is allowed outside of the cottage. We have ashtrays near the outdoor seating areas.
Drone Policy: No drones. Nope. Not at any time. We highly value our, our neighbors' and your privacy.

Your hosts are Barb and Susie. We love to share this beautiful land we live on with others. We like to garden, build, play with the dogs and chickens, cook good food, laugh and hang out with friends. We're easy going, and like to keep it casual. During the summer months, we invite volunteers to camp, and learn homesteading, natural building and permaculture skills. We appreciate the influx of new energies that our visitors and volunteers bring, and love learning from them, as well. We're happy to be able to offer an eco-retreat, and to share this little piece of paradise.
