Thanks for the review. We bought the flat as we wanted to live in a characterful property, and so, as you say, there are certain features that you wouldn't get in a new build, not least the fireplaces, large rooms and a sense of history. With the lighting, we have tried to adapt to create a sense of homeliness, for example by removing the central lights and using side lamps so that it feels cosy. We will leave more detailed instructions next time so that visitors know which lighting works best.
We are having the bathroom done up in the next few months - being a lower ground-floor flat, without a window in the bathroom, it is natural that the lighting there is not the same as in the other rooms, but we would contest the 'dinginess' comment. We will add more photos once the work has been done.
We would recommend the flat to people who would like to get a feel for historical London, by staying in an early Victoria stuccoed house with a garden in a well-connected area, and who appreciate the character that comes with antiquity.
