Brand new guest house at the top of Changunarayan ancient temple village near Bhaktapur. We are a short walk from the temple. Our rooms are decorated with original thangka paintings and other Nepali artwork.

This room may be rented for one person or with the beds together for 2 people. The bathroom is right next to the room (outside but not shared). This room is named Kubar, the Buddhist god for prosperity.

Der Wohnraum

This brand new, Cat. 9 earthquake safe, guest house with 24 hour electricity with a new solar water unit with gas water heating back-up to assure you of hot water. We are located right outside the West Gate of the local temple. It is the oldest Hindu temple still actively used in the Nepal. It is like a step back in time.

If you are looking for nightlife of Thamel, this is not for you for two reasons. First, it is a long ride to Thamel, about an hour. Secondly, if you are out that late you would not be able to get a ride home. But if you want a very quiet place where the air is clear and you can almost touch the stars from our rooftop then you will enjoy it. In fact, you would do well to schedule your first night or two here to recover from your trip from the West.

Zugang für Gäste

We have a dining room and kitchen for our guests only, not a restaurant for the public. We serve quality, vegetarian breakfast and dinner. You can have just about anything you want; just let us know. We also have TVs in the living rooms. Guests are welcome to use our living rooms as their own space for using the WIFI or visiting.

I am always happy to help my guests with information about Nepal and have a box full of tourist brochures, maps and movies about Nepal.

I do not have a trekking agency and do not earn any money on my advice except from the sales of my eBook, Nepal: A Tourist's Manual. You can do a search for FrugalTravelsNepal to find my eBook and blog. Both are filled with information to help you get the most out of your time in Nepal.

Weitere wichtige Infos

There is a 300 NPR ($3) admission donation that you have to pay at the entrance of the village in order to get to the guest house. You only have to pay once even if you stay several days. The money collected goes to the local temple, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

We also have a room for your trekking guide. If you come here with a guide he will stay free of charge in a room with an attached bathroom. We also provide dinner and breakfast for him. He will love you!

There is some social/political unrest at the Indian border at this time. India didn't like our new constitution so they cut off just about everything coming into Nepal. There is no fuel, so I cannot promise that we will have water, which can cause some serious food issues. I really try to keep such problems out of our guest house, so if I cannot promise a nice clean experience then I cannot have guests. I am so sorry. I was looking forward to meeting these guests.

This lovely place is situated in the beautiful countryside that Changunarayan is. Gorgeous views everywhere one turns, Nepali neighbours and their goats, and some super friendly dogs for company throughout my stay...what more can one ask for? Electricity is on load shed, but Amanda's got an inverter. Solar panels provides hot showers...definitely a luxury in Nepal, and for which I'm very thankful in winter! Amanda and her Nepali family made me feel like part of them, dinner every night was phenomenal, and they took care of me as I was down with the cold. My room was huge with an attached western bathroom. The room was spotlessly clean, and if I needed anything, all I had to do was ask. Truly enjoyed my stay here, and I'll never regret giving Kathmandu a miss! The countryside is definitely where one could experience true Nepali hospitality and life.

Starview is tucked away in Changu village, a charming little hamlet of Nepalese culture, just outside Kathmandu and Bhaktapur. The house is lovely, with a view from the rooftop of the lush Kathmandu valley and the Himalayas beyond (or so I'm told - I have yet to see them, due to it being monsoon season). Nicely furnished and quite comfortable rooms, and a friendly and welcoming staff. Amanda, the co-owner, is a lovely woman who will do whatever she can to make your stay comfortable. She's a walking encyclopedia of information about Nepal, and she's always available to answer any questions or simply share a cup of coffee and conversation. One of her many business partners, Kamal, has also been a great resource and friend. He's the true Nepali, very generous with his time and materials. He lives in the village and owns Thanka shops, so you can have an art lesson, if you're at all inclined. He'll give you a lift to Bhaktapur on the back of his motorbike and offer you more cups of tea than you could possibly drink. Though I'm a bit of a hermit, I've loved my stay at Starview (aka, Ye Ole Bitches Retreat Center). This place would suit both the studious and social types for the short- or long-term.

I'm a retired American expat loving my life in Nepal. You'll love our village. It's above the pollution line of Kathmandu and is only less than an hour away. If you have any problems while you are here just let me know. I'm always happy to help our guests even if it's in the middle of the night.

I have a blog about life in Nepal. You can do a search for it with just Frugal Travels Nepal. People find it quite helpful.
