We have availability and very affordable prices for:

Please inquire about pricing as we have many different properties and offer discounts for longer stays and larger groups.

The shared bedroom sleeps 4 people, with 2 shared bathrooms available for use . There's also fast WI-FI and ample closet space.

The large, three-bedroom house is located at the top of Rocinha, with incredible ocean views both overlooking Sao Conrado from one side and Lagoa and Ipanema beach from another side. The house also includes fast WI-FI, a large, fully-equipped kitchen, an expansive living room area with many couches and a TV. On the floor above the main living area is a vast rooftop deck with an outdoor shower and lots of space to tan and relax.

Rocinha is Latin America's largest favela with 300,000 residents and much culture and fun to offer you. The community brings together residents from all ethnicities, dialects, and regions of Brazil. Yes, residents are generally low-income, and the community is often neglected by the government. Nonetheless, what people lack in financial wealth, they more than make up for in hospitality, authenticity, and resilience.

There's lots for you to do in and near Rocinha, including:
• Take a walking tour through a favela led by English-speaking resident-guides, catching a breathtaking rooftop view, descending through a maze of alleyways, and learning about favela history, culture, and everyday life
• Check out a Carnaval rehearsal by an official samba group representing the favela
• Rent a surf board and catch some waves at nearby São Conrado beach
• Hike up the Morro Dois Irmãos ("Two Brothers Hill"), and watch the sunrise, overlooking all of Rio
• Grab a chilled beer and salty snack at one of Vidigal's many botecos (bars)

There are public buses (each about $3.80 BRL) that stop within a 1-minute walk of the house. Passing every few minutes, this public transportation goes to the lively neighborhoods of Leblon, Ipanema, Copacabana, Botafogo, and Leme.

Your host Maria Clara, married mother of 5, is a popular resident of Rocinha, known throughout the neighbourhood for her healing powers using natural remedies. One of her many contributions to the community included her work with pregnant teenagers between the ages of 10 and 16 who had been disowned by their mothers, seeking to repair the relationship between mother and daughter.
Maria Clara also goes under the name of Mulher Maracuja, or Pasionfruit Lady, as an act against the objectification of women in Brazil. Her project spreads smiles throughout various places in Brazil, hospitals, schools, NGO's etc.
Maria Clara wishes to create her own NGO to help people suffering from illnesses including tuberculosis, hepatitis and HIV, all of which are common in Rocinha, by providing better, less aggressive treatments and adequate recuperation that the State fails to provide, and creating a canteen that promises to feed the sick one meal a day.
Part of the point of the homestay is to put some of the profit made towards the NGO, and house volunteers who can contribute to the project with social work.

Rocinha's 24/7 police protect the community as part of a government program introduced before the 2014 FIFA World Cup. In reality, tourists are safer in Rocinha than in some of Rio's most "touristy" areas. Unlike other parts of the city, you'll feel a real sense of community in the favelas, where everyone looks out for their neighbors.

You can maximize your safety if you:
• Don't take photos of people without permission
• Never use or buy illegal drugs
• Consume alcohol in moderation
• Listen to your hosts about safety

Zugang für Gäste

You'll share the bathroom in the living room area with other guests and the family as well as the common lounging, dining, and kitchen area. Everyone can use the fast WI-FI and flat-screen TV as long as you're considerate of the other guests and Araujo family.

Interaktion mit Gästen

Your hosts who'll sleep in their own room are the Araujo family, consisting of Rafael and Priscila as well as their two boys, 18 years old and eight years old. Rafael is a political activist and landlord in the favela while Priscila manages the home and children. No one in the family speaks English, so it's the optimal environment to immerse yourself in Portuguese. The family is excited to share their home with guests from around the world and would love to share meals with you (but will ask you contribute money if they cook for you). Priscila can also arrange to wash your clothes for an extra fee per laundry load. Finally, the family keeps two cats and a tiny dog in the home.

I had a great time staying in Rocinha. The accommodation was ideally located and suited our needs. Elliot was really helpful in giving us the information we needed. Rocinha is totally safe and it gave us the favela experience we were looking for.
