The island on the Bay is one of the most sought after places to live in recent years, the beautiful homes, the abundance of places to shop, eat, see a movie at our historically restored multi-plex, and the best weather in the East Bay. This downstairs Flat is immaculate and beautifully furnished. Also, you have access to a gorgeous backyard. I give you the utmost privacy with this Share Rental.
This rental is for short term rental - One night to one month or more, if both parties are comfortable with each other to do a more long term booking.
This is a very charming, sunny, two-story historic home on an island in a very quiet neighborhood with a Flat upstairs and a Flat downstairs. Lower flat is a spacious 1400 sf flat that is available as a share on Airb&b with owner, Maria.
It has a room that is used as a suite with a 42" LED TV with Netflicks, a beautiful pine cabinet, a lovely pine round dining room table and a large desk and (2) slip cover chairs for reading, watching TV or relaxing, even taking a nap. Adjacent to that living space (suite), there is a Small Sleeping Sun Room with a twin bed and shutters across the entire windows in the room, and a view of the lagoon. There is a small closet and a tall piece of furniture for storing clothing. Also more storage in Television cabinet. The bathroom is shared.
The kitchen has been recently redecorated and is a beautiful room that is blindingly sunny in the morning The kitchen has a new gas stove, microwave, wine cooler, dishwasher, and a gorgeous view of a huge, whimsically landscaped backyard with a beautiful Redwood tree. Beautiful, original hardwood floors throughout. The Living Room is adjacent to the room that is available. It is beautifully decorated and there are plantation shutters throughout the downstairs.
This home was built in 1905 and is one of 400 historic homes here in Alameda. It is a 15 minute walk to beach where you will find kite and wind surfing, para sailing, and paddle board lessons being taken. A shopping mall is within walking distance that includes a Safeway, Trader Joe's, TJ Max, Ross, and many other shops, and a new Italian restaurant (Trabocco's) offering delicious Italian Soups and great Pizza, among many other upscale food choices. Also close to bus transportation to Bart and a Ferry to take you to San Francisco. Downtown shopping area has many small restaurants (ask me for recommendations). There is a newly renovated gorgeous Art Deco multiplex theater. Quick, easy access to all major freeways, 20 minutes from UC Berkeley campus. Laundry Room is available to guests staying and is adjacent to living room with a shutter door to close and one bathroom to share. Cable TV, WiFi, Netflix is included. No pets and no smoking allowed. Due to the rental upstairs, I cannot offer free parking in driveway.
The island was created in 1902 when a tidal canal (the Estuary) was created joining Oakland's harbor with the San Leandro Bay. The quality of life Alamedan's have enjoyed for more than a century is resplendent Victorian homes that grace shade tree-lined streets covering the island's 12.4 square miles. An invigorating climate, manicured parks. You never get enough sight seeing the beautiful historic homes here in the various neighborhoods and especially the Gold Coast homes where many movies have been shot. This is a city where many people walk and bicycle around the city. Several tennis courts, the beach to see the beauty of SF skyline, sand castle contests. According to the 2010 Census, a special living environment. Also, a very safe city.
Interaction with Guests
I am very hospitable, but really like to give my guests plenty of privacy. Entrance to the house on the first floor is through the back door. I spend a great deal of my time in my room with business and I love to read and watch movies. I am also gardening or out with friends. Do have friends over from time to time, but would inform you of their coming. I occasionally interact with guests and if I do, it's always pleasurable to chat a while and get to know my guests a little more informally.
Walnut Street is located at the end where the lagoon exists, so having a water view is really a plus on this little street where you can park only on one side of the street. The houses are a mix of various architecture. The street dead ends at the lagoon, which makes it only a destination street not a thoroughfare. It's peaceful here and there is a beautiful yard to spend time in.
Getting around: There is plenty of public transportation. Two Ferry locations to take you to SF to the Ferry Building (near the Embarcadero). To Bart to SF and SF Airport. Five blocks away to a bus to downtown Oakland from Walnut & Santa Clara Ave. Also, Uber and Lift. I am within walking distance of just about everything that is available here in Alameda, a hospital a block away, the Alameda historic movie theater, restaurants and shopping on Park Street (main street) and South Shore Mall

My best roommate would be one who is educated and respectful and neat and tidy. Also someone whom I would feel comfortable with, because they have a friendly personality and appreciates cleanliness.

I am sole owner of this beautiful property. I have worked in many industries of the business world as a Court Reporter, a Para-Legal, in a hospital setting, in the Aerospace industry, at the Port of Oakland in Commercial Real Estate handling tenants and berthers on the Marina for 10 years, and finally found my passion working at Gramma's Bed & Breakfast near University of Cal Berkeley as Director of Special events, and also at Preservation Park in Oakland doing 100+ events a month (meetings, weddings and special events). Also, at the Aquatic Center that was an empty building upstairs that the City of Oakland wanted to turn into an Event Site. I was hired to implement all that was needed to create a beautiful room and purchase all the equipment , including Audio Visual, etc. I was also involved in the design of a newly created Catering Kitchen which was created out of a space upstairs. Outside Food Sales for restaurants. In the world of design where I have done some home staging and architectural landscaping projects. I also have been a caterer doing events in my backyard, a fund raiser, raising $300,000 from stock brokers for Marines returning from Iraq, and a special event manager, wedding planner, and Bridal consultant I was born in San Diego and have always had to be near water.
Have traveled to Europe twice for a month each vacation, various Mexico destinations, South America, The Carribean, Hawaii a few times, Canada. Traveled only in a few U.S states... New York, Boston, Minnesota, Arizona, New Mexico, New Orleans, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, lived in Grand Forks, No. Dakota, and attended college there a short while. I love to read, enjoy discussing politics, movies, especially British and foreign films. Love to cook. Always eager to learn. I am very outgoing and high energy and love Brazilian music, jazz and performing arts. I have worked out at a health club all my life and have a healthy lifestyle. I love people, so now I have found my niche in hosting people from all over the world and I love doing it and making it very special for them to be in my beautiful Flat upstairs.
Five things I can't live without is love for family and friends, music, books, laughing, amazing food and list goes on... Life's motto is "Kindness, Forgiveness and Generosity Matter".
