If your goal is a quiet, comfortable place to stay in Iowa City, join us in our charming home in the historic Northside neighborhood. We're 6 walkable blocks to downtown, 5 to Northside Market, a short walk to Hancher Auditorium/City Park, and 3 to the Iowa Writer's Workshop. We love to get to know any guests who want to get to know us, but we won't bother anyone who wants to be left alone. It's your call. No pets, drugs, smoking, or heavy drinking allowed. No perfumes, please, due to allergies.

Die Unterkunft
This bedroom (2nd floor) is 225 sq ft (15' x15'). It has a four-poster bed, antique dresser, small writing desk and chair, bedside table, overhead lighting and fan, 2 lamps, a desk lamp, bookcase, and closet. The bathroom (glass shower stall, vessel sink, antique cabinet) is directly across the hall and contains a wide variety of amenities, including blow dryer, salon-quality hair products, eye makeup remover, and more.

Most of our 5600 sq ft home is shared space; we'll point out the few exceptions. You'll have access to the first-floor living room and dining room, the second-floor living room, parts of the basement, and all of the decks and front porch. Coffee and tea are available for you to make at any time. Feel free to store food and beverages in the refrigerator and make your own meals using our cookware and dishes. You'll have access to WIFI throughout the house. Staying awhile? Feel free to use the washer and drier.

Stairs are required to enter the house and to access the guest rooms.

A few times per year, we host readings, house concerts by friends, or parties. Feel free to join us if you like! If that's not something that interests you or would be annoying to you, be sure to tell us before you book.

We have up-to-date smoke alarms and heat sensors, C02 sensors, and fire extinguishers throughout the house, and we'll make sure you are aware of the many exits available to you. We take everyone's safety very seriously.

We've been told our home feels like home to our guests too. That's exactly how we'd like you to feel when you stay with us. If there's anything we can do to make your stay better, please let us know. If you need something and don't see it, just ask; we can probably provide it. We have blow-up beds and couches for extra guests or kids and may even have a spare bed available. If you'd like a humidifier or extra heater, more blankets or pillows, or any amenities, just ask! We'll do our best to accommodate your requests.

We can't wait to meet you!

Zugang für Gäste
You'll have access to some of the basement, two living rooms, 2 eating areas, kitchen privileges, and all porches and decks. Make yourselves at home!

You'll also have access to our wifi service. We hate to have to bring this up, but please be aware that any downloading of copyrighted material is illegal and will be prosecuted by the authorities. Our internet company charges a $250,000 fine for downloading illegal material, and it is also a federal crime. If your illegal behavior causes us legal expenses, you will also be responsible for those. So thanks in advance for being respectful of the law and the wifi we provide!

Weitere wichtige Hinweise
We're doing some redecorating on the first floor, but that shouldn't impact your stay; your room is on the second floor, and there is plenty of shared space to enjoy in other parts of the house. If we need to make noise, we'll do it when you are not around.

We charge a $15 cash fee per lost key. So hang onto them, please!

Lage

Iowa City, Iowa, Vereinigte Staaten

We love being in this historic neighborhood, where trees create a canopy over some of the streets. Old brick streets in this area give a feel for the early days of the city. We're a short walk to City Park, where you can swim in the city pool, picnic, run, do yoga, roller blade, watch kids play baseball, or stroll along the riverbank. We're near a skateboard park if that's your jive.

We're also near Hancher Auditorium, the beautiful theatre the University built after the devastating flood of 2008. In addition, we're near the Theatre Department, with small theatres hosting student plays. It's delightful to stroll, bike, or skate along the University's section of riverbank, hang out on one of the footbridges, or relax on a bench and watch the water and people flow by. A walk downtown is pleasant. You'll pass the famed Hamburg Inn, where presidents and other politicians have visited with the locals...

We're Julia Wasson and Joe Hennager. We are an easy-going married couple who enjoy traveling but don't love the idea of a boring hotel room. We try to appreciate each day we have on this planet and greet the world and humanity with an optimistic view. Frankly, curmudgeons won't appreciate us, nor we them. After long careers doing all sorts of things, the most recent of which were running a Habitat for Humanity ReStore (Joe) and leading a small nonprofit (Julia), we now own a publishing franchise. We produce two neighborhood magazines and are having a complete blast working together. Between us, we've got 5 grown kids and 7 grandkids (and counting), half of whom live much too far away. We've both traveled a lot for work and pleasure. Our extended family is scattered across the US, so our first destinations of choice are always to see them. We also have a desire to venture to places we've never seen. We loved visiting Canada, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Israel, and Palestine, as well as most of the 50 states. Our wish list for travel is long, with very few places in the world that we wouldn't want to go. We've hosted guests from around the world over the years and are just now giving Air BNB a try. We look forward to meeting even more delightful guests—but we'll give you space to enjoy your stay without meddling. We love to read, and our house is filled with books. We also like movies, but don't have a television (by choice). We live in a vibrant university town filled with opportunities and activities an easy walk from our home. Joe is a gluten-free occasional carnivore, and Julia is a gluten-free vegetarian. We like things neat and organized, but we're not manic about it. We're quiet and respectful of other's property, and we find that most people are the same. Julia is sensitive to scents, so we prefer not to have perfumes. We don't use strong chemical cleaners, opting for organic and natural cleaners whenever possible. We're personally careful about recycling and waste reduction, but we aren't unrealistic in our expectations of others (we'll show you where to find the compost pile and the recycling bins, if you're interested). For most of four years, we ran environmental/social action website called Blue Planet Green Living, but got so busy that we've let it go dormant. If you really want to know about us, check out the articles that Joe and Julia have written. They'll show you more about our personalities than anything we can tell you here. We love to meet new (nice) people. Perhaps that will be you!

We work out of our home, but we won't be in your way. Our offices are on the top floor, as are our sleeping quarters; your room is on the second floor.

We're pretty busy people with work and other commitments, but when we are available, we'll be happy to get to know you if you like. We love meeting new people but we won't spoil your trip by monopolizing your time. :)
